Hello all,
It is now almost official that Lockheed Constellation N749NL, currently still in maintenance
in the Aviodrome Museum at Lelystad airfield, will be undergoing engine runs in about two
to three weeks time from now.
When these test runs have been succesfully completed the next step will be testflights ! 🙂
The Dutch Connie was apparently supposed to fly at Bremen Airport for the
http://www.100-jahre-luftfahrt.de/programm/
and
http://www.bvl-ev.de/sites/vo/100_jahre/programm.html event this May the 10th
but got replaced by Air Atlantique’s DC-6 G-APSA instead.
The Aviodrome will do all it can to have N749NL airborne for the “Dutch Armada-tour” visiting
several Dutch airfields this July and August to commemorate the 90th anniversary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
The certification/”being current”-issue regarding both pilots AND flight engineers is thankfully now solved. 🙂
Events at Lelystad where the Lockheed will make an appearance, very likely a flying one:
Londen-Melbourne Race Fly In on the 4th and 5th of July
BankGiro Loterij Airshow/Dutch Flying Legends on the 29th and 30th of August, see http://www.airshowlelystad.nl for updates the coming months!
The DC-2 is available for events abroad!
According to Ruud Leeuw’s
http://www.ruudleeuw.com/aviodrome-2009.htm (which is a marvellous pictorial
update as per the 2nd of this month!) the Aviodrome could use some volunteers with
technical skills, so if you can mend things without breaking them first :diablo: , and have
some time to spare: http://www.aviodrome.nl/themapark/vrijwilligers.asp

Ahh….KLM Constellation’s!
This is the beautiful sight of Super Connie PH-LKE departing from Singapore one morning in 1963, just after a tropical storm.
Surely the most perfect looking airliner of all times. The storm behind it makes me think of what interesting times they were for the crews in ‘the big props’ ….as they still couldn’t fly “over the weather” as we do nowadays!

Ah, thanks for the pic David ! 🙂 I do hope this will not be another “damp summer” in North Western Europe though… 🙁
