On behalf of an American movie company a B-24D 1 to 1 scale replica has been made in Amsterdam. The aircraft, made by the original drawings (and photo’s taken of the “Cosford Liberator”), is very good and convincing looking and would have been a “museum candadate” if it wasn’t going to be destroyed in the movie. It took 3 months to built the aircraft. A pity it can’t be safed!

Yes that’s it ‘Epics of Aviation Archeology’ ? It showed the nose, thought to be serialed in the AM920 range, and was repeated in the Air Britian file of RAF/Commonwealth Liberators.

Pretty sure it was in this book- Aviation Archeology

It was a cockpit section, in an orchard in the 1960’s. Scrapped, I believe.

Reminds me of a pic in the first ever Wrecks and Relics of a B24 nose sat abandoned in an English wood
Are you sure about that? I’ve just looked at my copy (albeit the 1974 reprint) of the first edition (1961) of W&R and there’s no picture of a B-24 in that. Maybe there were different illustrations to the original as printed in 1961.

RE: Dutch make B-24 Liberator
At least its not going to be blown up as previously planned then. Shame nobody preserved that “wellington” in the Czech republic.

RE: Dutch make B-24 Liberator
Some new and additional information about the aircraft. The movie is called “Resistance”, and is about the B24 “Carpetbagger” operations as flown by the 801 / 492 Bombardment Group, based in the UK during WW2. It shows the history of a B24D crew shot down over occupied territory, somewhere in 1943. The B24D has been moved to Belgium for filming. Next week, when the fiming is over, it will be scrapped on site if nobody is interested to preserve it. In Holland, some museum(s) are now trying to obtain the aircraft. The movie will be released in sept/okt of this year, and will be shown worldwide. The aircraft, called “Achilles” is 100% looking like an original B-24D

RE: Dutch make B-24 Liberator
I only know it will not be shown in Europe, unless a VHS or DVD is bought. About Australia, who knows? . It isn’t a war movie either, just a movie that takes place during WW2. Of the story I only know that one of the crewmembers is hidding out during the last months of the war, and that, as thanks for the people that gave him shelter, he get the daughter pregnant. But tomorrow I am going to Belgium to shoot some rolls, so tomorrow night I might tell more.

The name is “Resistance”, and it is American (movie) market only, in Europe it will be released on video. It is made by “First Floor productions”.

Whats the film?

RE: Dutch make B-24 Liberator
Yes, I have pictures of it( I’ll think they will be in the next issue of Flypast), but I have no (fast) way of sending it to the forum as I have no scanner available untill monday. It is made of wood, metal and plastic. Original instruments, e.g. in the radio compartment, have been installed. It is unbelievable good looking! I am going to Belgium this Sunday, as it is there where they are shooting the movie in the next week, after that it will be scrapped. It is transported to a Belgium hillside, where they have laid the aircraft as if it had to belly land. It must be a spectacular sight. It realy should make a fantastic museum object!
