Can someone Dutch speaking please give me some idea what this is all about? It has been posted onto my Sabena Group (which is supposed to be an English language group) and I cannot comment on something I can barely understand!!
SN Brussels Airlines (SNBA), de opvolger van Sabena, zou tijdens de
eerste drie maanden van het jaar zowat 30 miljoen euro verlies
gemaakt hebben. Zo staat te lezen in het verslag dat de
luchtvaartmaatschappij opmaakte naar aanleiding van de
kapitaalsverhoging in maart dit jaar. Geert Sciot, de woordvoerder
van SNBA, zegt dat het slechts om een raming gaat en dat het verlies
lager ligt.
De longziekte sars, de Golfoorlog en de algemene economische malaise
hebben ook SNBA niet ongemoeid gelaten. Daarbij komt dat het eerste
trimester traditioneel een zwakke periode is voor de
luchtvaartsector. Uit het document blijkt nu dat ook SNBA in de
klappen deelt. ,,Het aantal passagiers op de Europese lijnen en de
yield (de gemiddelde opbrengst per passagier, red.) op het Afrikaanse
netwerk liggen lager dan is voorzien.” Resultaat: een gecumuleerd
verlies van 30 miljoen euro tijdens de eerste drie maanden van het
jaar. Het gaat om voorlopige cijfers, staat nog in het document.
Sciot ontkent ,,staalhard” dat het verlies dertig miljoen euro
bedraagt. ,,Het ligt lager”, aldus de SNBA-woordvoerder. Maar een
precies bedrag wil Sciot er niet op plakken. ,,Wij zijn geen
beursgenoteerd bedrijf en moeten dus geen kwartaalresultaten
bekendmaken.”
Winst
In juni lekte al uit dat SNBA twintig miljoen euro zal besparen om
zijn doelstellingen te halen. De luchtvaartmaatschappij mikt dit jaar
op een nettowinst van 5 miljoen euro. ,,Dat blijft onze
doelstelling”, zegt Sciot.
De verliescijfers komen uit het verslag dat SNBA moest opmaken naar
aanleiding van zijn kapitaalverhoging met 80 miljoen euro in maart
van dit jaar. Door het verlies van 36,8 miljoen euro in 2002 was het
netto-actief van de luchtvaartmaatschappij gedaald tot 13,2 miljoen
euro, of minder dan de helft van het maatschappelijk kapitaal. De wet
schrijft voor dat in zo’n geval de aandeelhouders zich moeten
uitspreken over de voortzetting van de activiteiten, wat ook gebeurde.
Het ging toen niet om echt vers geld dat naar de
luchtvaartmaatschappij vloeide. SN Air Holding, de maatschappij die
de particuliere aandeelhouders van SNBA overkoepelt, zette in maart
tachtig miljoen euro van een lening die ze toestond aan SNBA om in
aandelen. Maar de cashpositie vormt geen enkel probleem volgens de
luchtvaartmaatschappij. Eind 2002 beschikte SNBA over 110 miljoen
euro cash en op dit ogenblik is dat volgens Sciot nog altijd meer dan
100 miljoen euro.

This can be read in the report that the airline made following the capital-increase of March this year. Geert Sciot, spokesman of SNBA, says this number is merely a guess and that the actual loss is lower.
SARS, the Gulf war and the general economic downturn also affected SNBA. Added to that is that the first three months of the year are traditionally a weak period in the aviation industry. “The number of passengers on the European lines and the yield on the African network is lower than predicted.” The result is a accumultad loss of 30 million Euro for the first three months of the year. These are preliminary numbers, the document mentions.
Sciot denies “crystalclear” that the loss is 30 million Euro. “It is lower”, according to the spokes person. Sciot does not want to reveal how much lower the loss is. “We aren’t a listed company, and are therefore not required to reveal quarterly results”.
Profit
In June leakes already revealed that SNBA wants to redure 20 million Euro to meet its aobjectives. The airlines aims to obtain a net profit of 5 million Euro. That remains our goal”, says Sciot.
The losses are mentioned in the report that SNBA had to made following its increase of capital by 80 million Euro in March of this year. Because of the loss of 36,8 million Euro in 2002the money on hand of the airline had decreased to 13,2 million Euro, less than halve the public capital. The law makes it mandatory for stock-holders to declare activities may continue, which is what happened.
It wasn’t exaclty “fresh” (as in new) money that flowed to the airline. SN Air Holding, the company that overshadows the private stockholders, converted an 80 million loan into shares. The cash-position presents no problem for the airline. At the end of 2002 SNBA had 110 million Euro in cash and at the moment there is still more than 100 million Euro, Scoit told.

To keep it short:
SNBA is said to have lost 30 milion Euro’s in the first 3 months of 2003.
Mr Sciot say that it isn’t that much, the losses are lower.
They are going to cut costs for 20 milion Euro , and are still hoping for a 5 milion profit this year.
The company still has 100 milion Euro cash/capital, compared to 110 milion end of 2003. This all according to Mr Sciot.
