The thermometer on my bike was reading -1C when I parked at doors open this morning. A mist rolled in just after I arrived but soon dispersed to leave a bright, but cold morning. When I left at about 2pm, low cloud was rolling in from across the M11.
Howard got his Chipmunk out for a quick bout of aerobatics. Having chatted with him for a while he very kindly parked his aircraft outside the hanger for about 5 minutes, before he put it away, so I could do a walk around. Dave (I work with his mum at Wyton) took the Cub up a couple of times for air tests and Mark was debating wether to get his Rapide out and go for a spin. I think the cloud in the afternoon may have put paid to that. Mr Pilcher’s glider has been grounded from its perch in the entrance to AirSpace, and what looks like a Suppa-Duppa roller coaster going in its place. There were some superb vapour trails over the airfield and pity there was not a Spitfire flying just to add to the atmosphere.

Pen Pusher, myself & Mrs. T were also at DX yesterday, about mid-day, after visiting Madingley cemetery first thing. Saw the Chippie give a spirited display, but we had to move on before the Cub went up. Great pictures, especially the last one – amazing number of contrails, noticed these myself – fog seemed to be ringing the airfield boundary, very atmospheric.

That looks distinctly like Mr H Cook driving the tug 🙂

Nice to see the Varsity has had a little walk getting closer to the hangar and to be under cover maybe?

Thanks for the preview, I have to visit a client over that way in the morning and now that I have come out of the financial darkness and have a proper car and some dosh at last, I had decided to have a wander round myself, it’s been 18 months since I’ve been able to go into the ‘hallowed hangars’ and now I at least know where the ‘FW-190’ is parked up.
What are the plans for this beast, I’ve read all the postings and articles and it all seems somewhat vague, what work needs to be done before it’s first test flight, will it all happen tommorrow when just for once I’ll be all tooled up with digi camera and vid? Realistically, not likely, me suspects.
