DUXFORD AIRSHOW PRICES

😡 DUXFORD AIRSHOWS JUST ABOUT TO PRICE THEMSELVES OUT THE MARKET 😡

I have just received through the post a pamphlet from The Imperial War Museum (Duxford) advertising their events and Airshows for the season 2006.

All I can say is, that it is complete extortion.

Flying Legends £30.00 per Adult, £25.00 Pensioners, Concessions, Disabled, (on the day). OAP, etc have an increase of £17.00 😡

This will make my weekend £375.00 which includes 2 days at the show, (pushing my 17 year old daughter round in a wheelchair) Caravan site, Petrol and £100.00 for maybe Beer at night time, this figure does not include buying the odd book, kit or film developing. My mate and his wife will spend £600.00 that will include 2 nights hotel

Maybe this is the year I knock it on the head, or do I knock it on the head NOW?

I have spoken to the IWM and they tell me.

“None of the other Airshows give concessions, so why should we”.

I am sure I will get plenty of stick from you guys backing the IWM out their, saying that they have increased insurance costs, Blah, Blah, Blah, but hey, what do you think, honestly and truely.

I wonder what the Aircraft operators will think when the public starts to thin out. Obviously some operators restore/repair/sell, service aircraft, thats how they make their money, others do not and I am not mentioning any names.

And please do not forget if it was not for the flying Aircraft being based there, all you would have is 2 hangars with Aeroplanes hanging in them which you cannot see properley anyway and rusty relics of Airliners and Jets which the IWM do not give a damn about.

It will not be increased insurance/fuel prices that will stop operators it will be admission prices, the planes will go abroad, operators will retire and who could blame them.

BOYS! We have had the best years, make the most of the next couple.

The Goverment and the CAA will win in the end, beleive me…… 😡

Right, enough now. As the only mod present at this moment in time I am calling time on this thread. My reason for locking the thread has nothing to do with the issue of the IWM’s airshow prices and what they might or not be, but in response to the appalling behaviour displayed by certain persons.

Personal attacks on other members are not, and never will be tolerated.

What is the point of talking intelligent, you lot all talk like Shirley Temple anyway.

Maybe if we still had an Aviation industry, a Boat Industry and a Car industry, we would not need to pay as much for the cost of living.

Why should I buy a Friends Of Duxford membership I would never benefit from it. DX is owned by the goverment, they also had a record year on entries to the museum last year. The goverment pockets the money. Wake up.

I think now I’ve heard it all.
Of course I now realise my large pay rise this year from my present employment with Her Majesty’s Government came from the proceeds from museums and not your taxes–as of course does my 30 days paid holiday, my optional 10 additional days for personal/compassionate reasons, my 18 days paid sick, BUPA, and final salary pension.
They’ve also planted an attractive rose garden outside my window.
I find it soothes me as I grapple on serious issues like should I shuffle some more paper before lunch or have Tea (provided free of course).
I think my rose garden was an excellent use of Tax-payers money.
Cetainly better than wasting it on old aircraft.

I never realised the cost of a ticket to Legends helped pay for my comfortable living.
Please everyone–would you find some some additional to people to go to Legends with you? As we need to employ a gardener to keep the Rosemary Harkness pruned correctly.

Love to all.
Andy

Please don’t answer him, he has totally lost it. These posts are why such people as us are not posting anymore if we can help it. This is supposed to be an historic aircraft forum. Keep it so or please stop.

wake up call

Can i join you lot for a pint whilst Mr Beard thinks of something really intelligent to contribute to the prices at Duxford.
Maybe IF he can work out how to lessen the fuel costs, insurance costs,VAT,rise in the cost of living and make a profit so these wonderful aircraft can be kept where we want to see them.
Mr Beard have you considered joining the Friends of Duxford,oh now THAT may save you money and help with keeping the museum functioning, but i don’t suppose you can see too clearly with that red veil over your eyes.

Not far from the truth (but I still need a beer), however upon what basis to you call me “round man”?

Oh right, now we are personal, quick get a moderator and ban him, oh I have just soiled myself with laughter.

YOU ACTUALLY TALK FROM WHERE YOUR WASTE GASES EXITS YOUR BODY, YOUR RECTUM, ANUS, VENT WHOLE AND YOUR UP EVERYONE ELSES.

I don’t know what you’re on Rob, but can you let me have the name of your supplier and how much it is per line?

Why is Duxford and it’s little July eisteddfod so important to you?
It’s only an airshow.
I don’t even like air-shows–I certainly try never to pay to get into them.

I think you should chill out, perhaps take up another interest, how about fishing or Philately or brick laying (Winston Churchill did that to relax), anything rather than this, which seems to distress you so.

I’d suggest Cricket but my tickets this year to a one day game at the Oval were £52.00 each and a Friday at Lords for the test was £40.00.
A decent ticket at Saracens these days is £25.00.
You don’t get a lot for your money.

I really do believe that Mr. Beard is failing to grasp what he is being told. The price increase for concessions is probably less than the equivalent price increase for the alcohol you intend to consume. This is not the fault of the IWM so perhaps you should address your concerns to the Licensed Victuallers Association.

You really have two choices.

1. Go.

2. Don’t go.

Now, should we start a poll?

It is entirely probable that no-one actually gives a damn….

I now reccomend to the moderators that Mr. Beard be banned for his outrageous personal attack on trumper.
