I am particularly happy with this picture, as it was taken at only 1/30th of a second shutterspeed:

Thanks Gareth! Very interesting information πŸ™‚
If I win the lottery one of these days I might just switch to Nikon πŸ˜€

Cheers Daz!

Exactly. Theoretically, this could be possible in the 300D (using the 300N mirror, for example).

Quite likely… but it would be a nice feature πŸ˜‰

The sigma DSLR’s use a ‘sports finder’ (full size mirror and pentaprism, 1.7x crop sensor) which they push for just the reason you state Syraider3D. Personally I think the reason they’ve done it is due to the massive saving in R+D in adapting their film bodies

The Nikon D2X also has a high speed crop mode (2x field of view crop, 7million pixels) that just use the centre of the viewfinder too. Takes a bit of getting used to but can be quite useful in some situations.

Excellent images by the way, can see why you’re happy with the L39 shot!

Only an oversized mirror would give you the extra area you want.

Exactly. Theoretically, this could be possible in the 300D (using the 300N mirror, for example).

I don’t think any SLR offers this.

Quite likely… but it would be a nice feature πŸ˜‰

Machine gun’s no good if you ain’t looking πŸ˜‰

Very true πŸ™‚ but to illustrate what I mean: you got a nice shot of the Tornado disappearing almost completely behind its vapour. This vapour cloud was “flickering” and only obscured the aircraft for a fraction of a second several times. Missed all those flicker clouds as after only three shots my camera started saving the images to the (80 speed!) CF card and I couldn’t make anymore pictures until it was too late πŸ™
There were several of such cases where I just knew you would have the shot (and your Duxford thread here just confirms that :)). The inverted Tornado with cloud is another one (I lowered my camera cause it stared saving and by the time it was done the Tornado would be too far away anyway).

Speaking of looking, I wish the viewfinder would show some extra area around the image I am shooting. Since the EOS 300D enlarges 1.6 times, there is no reason why this couldn’t have been done. It would allow some better planning of the shot, now and then (as you can more easily see other planes coming into the frame).
O yes, moon on a stick would be nice too πŸ˜‰

Thanks Tom, glad you like ’em! πŸ™‚

Lots of different stuff caused by the (obviously) challanging conditions.

Bizarre thing is the weather here in Victoria seems about the same at the moment!

Really like the ‘Princess Elizabeth’ shot. Great detail.

O yes, there were Spitfires too!

Notice the odd motion effect on the prop of the second machine!
