A bit of a surprise on entering 3 Hanger on Saturday. There is now extra public access down passed the Blenheim and almost to the hanger doors. According to one of the security guards, there is a new ‘lady director of the museum’ (his words) and during her walk around she was a bit perturbed that the public did not have access to see the painted B-17 mural (which can just be seen in the Blenheim shot below). Now the new walk way down to it. Blenheim on one side and ARCo fleet the other. Nice 😀
The Mk XVIII Spitfire was looking a bit forlorn sitting by itself in the TFC hanger with rolls of brown paper and bubble wrap close to hand waiting to be stripped and containerised.

I went yesterday, brilliant as usual. Nearly had a heart attack when this boy was hanging off the balcony in airspace,. Went all white.
I saw Grumpy do a ground run, a C47 flypast and saw the Taz Harvard go around the airfield. 🙂
Excellent pictures

No, nothing was missing. It just seems that sometimes you are permitted to fly a Mark XVIII Spitfire and other times you aren’t. When it comes to that stage, the best thing to do is to send it somewhere where it will be allowed.

Thanks Bograt. I rememeber seeing it doing engine runs. Was the problem something to do with missing manuals or paperwork?

Great pictures as ever. Forgive my ignorance but did the Spitfire XVIII ever fly at Duxford?
No, the Gatwick mafia put paid to that idea…

She’s going to a far, far better place, Brian; a magical land where historic aircraft are allowed to fly without undue interference by busybodies who have nothing better to do….;)
As long as it’s still there on Wednesday when I come down.:D

Which spitfire is being packed up?
I only had time for a quick rush round yesterday as I was there on other business so didn’t have time to look at everything.
This one Richard
