Whilst tidying up a random bunch for BoB film prints, all mostly poorly exposed and composed, this one for me stood out like a beacon.
The photographer was actually taking scattergun shots of the Buchons, but I see the picture within the picture with shades of “Twelve O’Clock High” here.
The end of UK filming all but complete, the static Spitfires being restored to ‘as received’ condition prior to hand back to the MoD, the grass growing. 🙂

Indeed it is.
Anybody noticed the wingtip to the left is from a “Hurrischmitt”?

Looks like the normal German markings to me Daz.

Hmm. Now that I look again, you could be right. I thought the darker patch just above the aileron hinge-line was a dark blue roundel.

Possibly painted back into Luftwaffe camo? Or is it the remnants of the Spanish Air Force roundel beneath the Luftwaffe paint job?
Either way, a nice and atmospheric photo – thanks for sharing Mark 🙂

Dan

Nice One
That is a very evocative picture , I feel quite sad really because I was there and now I’m all grey haired and achy, It reminds me of the more distant colour slide that you have Mark , similar with the covers on.
We will never see the like again. I think I will have a cry !!!

No crying!!!
We are about to commence painting Buchon G-BWUE into its B of B film colours as Yellow 10 this week. So hopefully it will rekindle some happy days when you see it! 🙂
Is it just the paint scheme, Roobarb, or is it the full “Bf109E” get up (dummy guns/cannons etc)?

Nice evocative pic.
Out of general interest, how many Buchons are left in the UK, and how many of those are flyers?

It looks that way, you can see the roundels on some of the “HE-111’s” in the film.
As for the picture….. “E-bay” – “A squadron of Me-109’s at the final surrender” etc !:diablo:
I don’t know if its the weeds, or lack of people, but it is an atmospheric picture.

They did and can be seen in the ‘Repeat please’ scene with the Poles. You can see them in the background with the tailplane braces.

Is it just me, or can you see one gable of the burnt out WW1 hangar at far right in the first shot? 😮
Wonderfully evocative pics by the way. Thanks for sharing.

One of the benefits of scanning at high dpi. 🙂

Could this be the one that was blown up for the film?

A sad sight for which to make my first post! I think it is the combination of B/W, weeds growing, and the photo taken from the rear, with the aircraft facing away. Whatever it is, it is a very evocative picture.
Looking around there are some wonderful photos in these forums – both old and new. What a treat!

To the immediate right of the white tanker – that is the collapsed roof with the facing doors and brickwork, still standing…just.

Evocative , the new in word
Lovely to know you are painting your “Pigeon” in film colours Roobarb. It might make me feel young again. Has Connie Edwards still got a load stored in the States ?
