Any ideas how the ARC static Bollingbrooke/Bleheim rebuild is going, Mike took me round about 9 months ago and it was looking great IIRC in Bleheim Palace- havent heard any more and wont be back to DX for a while…
DH9 notwithstanding I think this is the only privately contracted rebuild for Airspace?
Anyone got any recent pix?
All t best

@FiltonFlyer
Thank you very much for your information Andrew. I didn’t know about the other Bolingbroke at Duxford!

I thought the IWM has lost interest and stored her. Be good to see her go to East Kirkby.

I think it’s in building 63, last time I looked. Seemed to be firefly wings being worked on in 66 😉

Jur,
I’m afraid you’re thinking of another Bolingbroke.
9893 was intended to be the basis of a static restoration for the IWM at Duxford, but when work started rebuilding G-BPIV as a Mk.I, work on 9893 was halted, with the intention of restarting once G-BPIV was finished. 9893 used to be visible in Building 66, but I haven’t seen it for a while, so I don’t know if work has restarted. I presume it is in storage, awaiting time and resources, probably in 66.

No it has been completed as a Mk.1 a few years ago and is a regular flyer. Many photos of this beautiful aircraft are to be found on this forum.

Is Bolingbroke 9893 still under restoration for the IWM at Duxford?

Nice to see ACTUAL-type credit being given to the aircraft in Mr. Romaine’s hangar – even the Mk. I replica under construction at Duxford is in fact a Boly Mk. IVT with a “short” nose affixed.
As someone noted above, they are Blenheims in paint-scheme only. 😉
Having been “corrected” by so many Brit enthusiasts over the years, I think it only fair that we use proper nomenclature for restored aircraft, that mayn’t actually BE British in origin. :diablo:
Lately, many folk advertise their aircraft as, e.g. ” Spitfire Mk. V representive of P.O. Percy Prune’s Mk. Ia” – that covers the accuracy of type, and commemorates a particularly significant aircraft which was likely lost over the intervening decades. /rant

Nice to see some Boly enthusiasm, in response to Deryck, I believe only 15 Mk 4 Ws were built, I have included picture of engine operation data plate for a W with the Wasp Juniors, cheers.

About East Fortune
The rumours were there was a strong wish to be historically correct to the airframe and do here in the Target Tug yellow scheme.
Dont know if much has changed but most people I have talked to want her in the colours of 132 OTU. The OTU that was based at East Fortune.
She looks good even from what she looked like a few months ago. Really nice to see glazing in her as this was one big problem they were having at one point. Cost a fortune to get it made and one thing APSS dont have is money.

That’s the information I received earlier this year too, when I requested details for an article I wrote about the recent milestones achieved with the restoration. IIRC they made this decision due to the particular P&W engine needed being even rarer than an operational Mercury.
The original engines in the Boly Mk IVWs were P&W R1535, Twin Wasp Juniors. Sort of hen’s teeth.

Thanks for posting those Robert, it’s looking great so far. For ages it just looked the same with little happening. The glazing looks terrific. Any further in the colour scheme discussions?

Blenheim Progress
KIGAS and Rlangham,
The film was called “The Way to the Stars” and the squadron started on Blenheims but converted to Bostons part way through. Later on a B17 group took over Halfpenny Green airfield.

Ah i think i remember the one, do they get Baltimore/Maryland’s later on? Watched it one bored afternoon
By: KIGAS - 27th September 2005 at 19:49
There was a film which appears from time to time on afternoon TV which stars John MILLS about a aerodrome called Halpenny Green for the life of me I cant think of the name of the film, however it shows a squadron of MkIs flying and was made about 1950. I`ve got it on tape somewhere.
And as for the Yale its being worked on.

Mike and I were mostly talking about his Dads involvement in the T-6 down south at the time
😮 😮

Cheers KIGAS -when in BP Mike and I were mostly talking about his Dads involvement in the T-6 down south at the time – and I guess my memory must be playing tricks – must have been a lot longer ago than 9 months! Last time I was there I was delivering F-86 gear legs to Colin, cripes come to think of it that must have been November time last year!
All the best and get on with that Yale willya!
