I am about to start building the Classic Planes 1/72 Buchon which will be painted in the BoB film colours that G-BWUE now wears but it appears from all the pictures I have seen since seen the repaint that the dummy wing guns appear and disappear to be replaced with patches over the holes left after the guns are removed, Would anybody know if this removal is now permanent feature or will they be refitted ?

Here’s some detail shots I took for you yesterday. It’ll be a challenge to do these in 1/72… ๐ฎ
I am hoping that these will be close enough in 1/72

Thanks chaps. It was an amazing pass! I managed to get a nose shot as the Buchon whizzed past.

No, they’re actual holes in the engine cowling. For what, I’m not sure, however…!
Cooling, perhaps?

Sorry but you are wrong. They were specifically manufactured by the film company and sit in the area where the original cannon were fitted. We have original B of B film barrels fitted to G-AWHE and used them as the design shape to copy for the ones fitted to G-BWUE. Connie Edwards told me this week when he visited Duxford, that he has dozens of barrels in his hangar at Big Spring. ๐
CLANG !!
Hang on Roobs i’ll give you a hand to pick up that name you just dropped….;)

I believe that the “cannon barrels” in the original 1968 film aircraft were simply Browning 0.303 barrels, even though that is obviously the wrong calibre.

How can you say badass with a smile like that.

I know the Messerschmitt purists will jump on me for saying this, but the Buchon is one badass looking aircraft, especially head-on…!

The guns were borrowed from G-AWHE and slaved in for the initial ground based photo shoot that I took and released, as the originals were not with the aircraft when it came from Breighton. As they had not been fitted in that rebuild, they were not part of the original technical certification and so new items were manufactured and a modification approval had to gained before fitment for flight. This took a while and so initial flying was undertaken without the guns fitted, hence the blanking plates at that stage. They were subsequently fitted and have been on ever since. From memory they were put on just before Legends this year. I think it looks best with the guns fitted, myself. ๐
They were fitted the day before the show I believe.
