DUXFORD 25 YEARS AGO (Part 1)
Until things start moving, here’s a look at Duxford 25 years ago. January 1988 was a busy month for TFC. Bell RP-63C Kingcobra NL62822 arrived crated on 6-1-88. ‘822 had a racing career (with clipped wings) going back to the Bendix Trophy, and had competed at Reno as ‘Tipsy Miss’, later becoming ‘What Price Speed?’ by 1979. She arrived at Duxford with restored wings and named ‘King Cobra’.

Assembly was rapid. First flight 12-5-88, with a debut at the North Weald Fighter Meet on 14-5-88. Seen here in Russian marks at Duxford 15-5-88:
The Bell P-63 was a first on the warbird scene in the UK, and attracted a lot of attention. Her loss at La Ferte Alais on 4-6-90 was a great tragedy, but nothing compared to the loss of her pilot, John Larcombe, whose absence is still deeply felt at Duxford.

Thank you all for the wonderful pictures and’Updates’ from Duxford and OW. Your ‘year in review’ just posted has added much needed colour and warmth to our minus 30 temperature here in Ottawa.
