That’s good news. Hope that the first report confirms that the storm didn’t do any serious damage.

Apologies to all for keeping quiet for a couple of days.
The depth of detail we have been able to present on the Duxford Diary thread is entirely dependent on the goodwill of the staff and volunteers from many different organisations. It became obvious that the goodwill was under threat, so I decided to suspend the thread until I had talked to a few people about the forum format and its strengths and weaknesses.
The response (and the many positive comments on this thread and elsewhere) have proved that I over-reacted, for which I apologise. ‘Normal’ service will be resumed soon.
No organization is perfect (not even Duxford!), and I would never censor critical posts, but I hope forum members realise that the thread has a wide following. Ill-informed comments can cause bad feeling. I’ve said before that everyone at Duxford is a volunteer (since nobody could be in it for the money), we should value what has been achieved.
Duxford Diary 2013 will return as soon as there is something to report.

Not sure – the last couple of posts hit on the Victor being dragged out to make room for the “Quilters”, the lack of room for the 1-11 conservation to be completed and non-existence of any form of conservation going on in the conservation area of the Sooperhangar….
Maybe the criticism hit a raw nerve?…
Lots of ‘conservation’ going on in Hanger 5. I wish there were more but in this day and age we should be thankful for anything. Once all of the work for Lambeth Road has been competed maybe we will see some of the long term Duxford exhibits being worked on?
I don’t know why the thread has been closed but I hope someone else starts it up again as there are some exciting things going on next year.

OK. “campaigners”.
Not sure what difference the inverted commas made; my question remains the same, inverted commas or no!
By: HP111 - 27th October 2013 at 14:07
Campaigners? Did I miss something here?
You missed the inverted commas – “campaigners”.

I would like to thank DCW for creating the Duxford threads after all that’s what attracted me to this forum. Though the contributions by many others made the thread possible. Like most people I live a fair distance from Duxford and I can only visit a few times a year and the thread was a great place to catch up on news and see some fantastic photographs. It was a great thread where anybody could ask questions, share knowledge and comment on what is happening at one of the greatest air museums in the country and possibly the world. I hope that the thread is resurrected in due course and we will see the “Duxford Diary” once again on the forum.

If it doesn’t return, I’m sure the rest of the Duxford Snaparazzi will combine to produce something to fill the void…

I would like to add my thanks to DCW for all his wonderful posts keeping every one up to date with the everyday goings on at Duxford. Like a lot of other people I can’t get to Duxford very often so I too make the Duxford Diary my first port of call so please bring it back if at all possible !

So why has the thread been removed?

Campaigners? Did I miss something here?

I have always visited “Duxford Diary” in my visits to the forum and while I tend to question if we needed so many photos, nevertheless it has been a valuable part of the scene. One of the strange features of this forum is that at times it seems as if someone is mounting a campaign on what they perceive as an emotive subject and trying to drag others in. In my innocence (?) I do not always catch on, but I am always open to reprimand in such things. My attitude is come back Duxford Diary, go away “campaigners”.

I had the pleasure of meeting David on the day the Blenheim was briefly out for photography in its latest colours. I stressed how many of us who are not local to Duxford really appreciate all the effort put into the Diary. He was at pains to point out that, although he may have been the OP of the thread, the Diary was very much a team effort involving Pen Pusher and Duxman too. I was already a fan of DCW’s photography, but after that chat was also impressed by his generous recognition of everyone involved with maintaining the thread. I do hope that whatever the issues are that DCW can resurrect it in due course.

Just like to add my voice to express what I think is the real value that David added to this forum.
I hope that whatever issues have arisen can be swiftly resolved and we will shortly see DCW back with his thread.
Hopefully, David will be noting how much his posts are widely appreciated. If he didn’t know previously, then he should now!
