Duxford Flying Display 02-09-2006. Dry but too windy for Spits

Despite the near gale force winds toward 5.00pm which put paid to the Spitfire flypast (there would only have been eight of them anyway due to clagged weather elsewhere) I thought it as a fantastic day.

So where was the rain? Ran in to it on way home about 20 miles west of Duxford. Duxford would have been a complete washout had the rain arrived on time.

My congratulations to the organizers and pilots who put up a great show despite increasing winds throughout the afternoon.

Thanks Blue Diamond

Yes the weather on Sunday was a bit of a nice surprise. The Red Stars (Aerostars) were very good and oddly I thought they looked a bit better flying a little higher due to the high wind. As far as the Spitfires are concerned, better eight than never (poor joke)

Thanks

Nice pics considering how dull the weather was. Apart from the wind Sunday was a pleasant surprise from the original forecast. Managed a photo of just about everything in sun. I thought the Red Stars were excellent, especially considering the strong wind during their routine. The finale was superb. Pity it was only eight but beggars can’t be chosers.

I like the Cannberra!:D

Thanks very much Canpark. There wil be more of it within 48 hours from sunny Sunday.

I think there is one flying in Australia at the moment but it is allowed to do loops. Is that right?

Thanks James. Bog standard flypast with two F15s then turned round. Both then separated and came in a straight line up the crowdline except one did a wing wraggle somewhere near the centre.

They each turned north east has they exited the eastern end of the airfield but were at too high an angle to get a proper top view of each aircraft.

In short, yes!
