Duxford Flying Legends

Having been very disappointed with Fairford I opted for Duxford on Sunday. With countless others . They had to close the gates late afternoon. A great
day weatherwise and a fantastic display.
I took hundreds of pics but here is my favourite which will be my pc desktop pic for a while

Hi Rob, found you but not hard I guess, should have thought of it earlier!

Bit late with a comment now but better ………

Exposure is always a problem. Correct exposure is a matter of opinion to a large extent and, in my view, also dependant on what you are trying to illustrate in the picture, assuming it is not purely artistic.

On the basis of if they were taken by me I would probably feel that the tri plane is under.
Sally a bit more difficult as more effected by the back light. I would probably try to lighten it a bit but suspect would return to as is.
The Hurricane whilst I see why you might consider over I would be very tempted to leave as is. Assuming the plane to be the object of attention the detail shown in this exposure does it for me, possibly just a tad down otherwise.

Not much help really but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder and very subjective and you are sure to get critism what ever you do.:D

very nice videos 😉

I see by the second video, that they still allow people to “set up camp” along the display line.
With wind breaks etc .

Lovely pics but dare I say spoilt by the diagonal copyright. Can you not put it along the bottom or in a corner?

I’ve said it before, but I need to remind myself.

Thought it would be clever, in the ’50s, to feather the 2 Shackleton engines nearest the spectators.

As we were in the middle of a very low pass, No3 failed.

Count the number of hands going for the switches!!

Not to out do you but I witnessed a Shack at a Changi air display come through on his wind screen wipers. As he feathered his last engine he started the inboard on the other side. Would have been 1962/63.
The commentator actually said, “Here he comes on his wind screen wipers”! They were going like mad.

I imagine thoughts of impending courts martial were very prominent at the time along with wondering what excuses could be used.

Legends always gets me like that. A bit overcast? That’s OK then I won’t need the sunscreen-wrong you’re going home with a barbecued face tonight boy. I never learn but it still wouldn’t stop me from going to airshows.

Biggin surprised me this year. It had never been one of my favourites. I looked through the display list to see when I could take a moment away from watching, to powder my nose and, suffice to say, the display was so compelling that my nose got very shiny indeed!

Another show that deserves a capacity crowd as it has to be one of the best in the country from the film footage I’ve seen of it. Maybe one year I’ll actually get to see it live.

Biggin Hill also reached capacity, this year, and had to turn people away – and that was before the Fairford debacle.

It’s not the first time I’ve known them to close the gates at Legends on the Sunday. I have been there a couple of times before when it has been announced that they’ve had to close the gates as they can’t get any more in. I don’t think there are many air shows in the country who can boast that kind of attendance.
