Hello guys and gals ๐
Due to man/womanpower problems on the Saturday, I am afraid I have had to change the date of the get-together to the Sunday (the 5th)
I am really sorry if this inconveniences any of you…due to health and safety reasons I need a certain number of staff to assist with the aircraft tours in the morning…but it’s fine for the Sunday…
So…the plan:
Sunday 5th October 2003
Arrive 10.00am-10.30am – if we can all assemble by the Sunderland by 10.30am at the latest, that would be great.
Tour of Sunderland and (hopefully) the Lanc
Lunch
After lunch head over to the north side for a tour of the Department of Printed Books and Documents (1.30pm approx)
Then to the Astra Cinema for the film show and raffle
At the moment, the films shown will be:
“One of Our Airfields” a Look East documentary about Duxford in the late 1970s, and “Dambusters”
I also have a reel of amateur footage of Duxford Air Day 1975 – no sound, and some wonky camera work, but some good shots of BBMF Lanc minus the upper turret, two of Ormond Baille’s T-33s and his Fury…the Monarch Britannia arriving…anyone interested? ๐
I am hoping for permission to allow you all to move your cars to the north side after lunch – that way you won’t have to worry about racing back to the car park before the Museum closes (I will need a D.A.S volunteer/Friends of Duxford member to help me man the gate if this happens)
Then afterwards, to the Red Lion at Hinxton.
If possible, can those of you planning attend let me know if you are definites (I need to let the guys in Hanger 1 know a firmer idea of numbers than I have at the moment)
Hope those of you who were planning on coming can still make it
Ashley
P.S. If some of you can’t make it due to work commitments etc but would still like a look in the aircraft or to visit Printed Books, send me a message and I will see what I can do.

Hi BlueRobin. Iโm glad the vid is workingโฆnever ceases to amaze me what the threat of violence does to machinery. ๐ ๐
Bob, Iโm glad you like it. I know what you mean about Bentley Beauman, no wonder heโs got his dinner all down his jacket, bless him. I like The clip of the bev landing at Hendon, must have been scary sitting in it! ๐ฎ

Dezz,
Just to let you know I am watching the Dezz-o-gram DVD I won in the raffle.
The Hendon programme was interesting and dear old Bentley Beauman (?) trying to tell his story with teeth 4 sizes too big – wonder who picked his teeth up by mistake….
Almost on par with Rolly Birkin (“…and I was exceedingly drunk…”)
The Grace Spitfire prog was worth watching too – rather prophetic Nick Grace saying how he wanted OU-V to live on even after he wasn’t around.
I’ll let you know when I have watched the rest of the disc.
Cheers
Bob

Hi Dezz, the tape has suddenly decided to start working again. I think it was the threat of extinction that did the trick. Thanks for the offer anyway!

hi BlueRobin
sorry you are having trouble with the vid, it was recorded on standard play, if you have a dvd player i will send you a dvd copy, and you can do what you like with the vid, if you havent got a dvd i will send you another vid copy, this i will tape on another video recorder.the reason i did a dvd and vid copy was two fold 1, not everyone has a dvd and 2, the place i work in had run out of dvdr’s, the films are really worth waching so PM me to let me know what format you would like.

Glad to hear you all had a great day yesterday, you never know I may be able to make the next get together if the present Mrs En830 will allow.
Right from the top:
The SAAB wins because believe it or not it handles so much better than the 911 that you can corner faster.
A real journey is travelling from one town to another not doing the comparison on a test track.
I think that you also save time on the journey by not having to stop for fuel so often in the SAAB

Sounds like your video is playing in long play mode. See if you can alter the tape speed to short play, or vica versa. I have 2 video machines that are supposed to automatically change from one setting to another but there are occasions when i have to do it manually.

Derek, your VHS video won’t play properly on mine VCR. Have sound but pciture is all noise. Can see it in fast-forward though ๐ I thinkk it’s a bit too old…

Its settling down out here a bit at last but I can now confirm that my stuff will be packed 6 Nov and should be delivered to my UK address around early Dec (quite a trip by sea !) . All I gotta do then is unpack and get the pc set up to catch up with you guys…in the mean time I’m now around until then.

This information is from a report in one of the motoring magazines years ago. The main reason is that getting the most out of a 911 is damned hard work

I think we would all have expected that, but why did they choose a SAAB 9000 for the comparison?

Well, it was fun to meet with you all yesterday. I’m sorry that I could not stay for the whole day and that I did not get the chance to speak with everyone there. However I thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour of the Breitling Fighters and found Lee Proudfoot’s information about the team fascinating. Thanks Ashley!

Haven’t achieved slaphead status yet.
What used to be mid to dark brown is largely grey with pink highlights.

[B]You don’t know how true that is. This car is one of the last air-cooled 911 made the 993 turbo-charged version. The previous owner didn’t think it had enough power so had it chipped to increase the output by another 40bhp, he also had it painted a lovely shade of yellow.
That’d be this one then ?
Only joking mate

LVG? I’ll be low flying in my LGV! Watch out down the M 11, M 25 today, if it’s big, & it’s red & white, then it could be Neilly in a rush to finish early:p
C U All tomorrow:)
