Thanx for the message Andrew…however, this raffle falls into the realms of a tombola of the sought organised by private parties/schools/brass bands/pubs/messes/butchers (for meat draws etc.)….indeed we are not selling to the public just inviting a donation from our group of friends for a chance to win an item. Hence strictly speaking it is not a raffle.

regards
Tony

RE: Duxford get-together Sun 5th Jan

That is what I am hoping people will do….they can say as much or as little (or nothing!) as they wish…the idea is a get together….the talk will form a focal point, we will have the raffle with the chance to win the BoBfilm prop (and hopefully other prizes if we can get them!!). We can have a live forum also if people wish to air a subject.

I would hope many of our photographers will bring photos, I shall endeavour to bring some Spit ones.

If anyone wants to see any particular photos or has any research questions etc, now is the time to air them and the live forum getogether may be able to help.

I hate those yank-style badges / stickers.

I’m the bald guy on the ladder.

And I personally would’nt mind standing up (until I’m booed down!) in front of everyone just to say who I am, what I do, and where I am from. I am aware that some may not wish to do this, so perhaps the floor could be open at some stage for any takers?

Dont think I’m gonna be able to make it from here this time. flights are fully booked and I’m not gonna do a 5000 mile round trip on me bike in winter time !.

Bum !

Heres hoping for one later in the year.

Please confirm and post the address for the charity donations.

Have a good one people.

Cheers

God, I can relate to that-I’m pig sick of being on the ‘wrong side’ of the country (South Wales) for anything good! Used to have dear old RAF St Athan just up the road, but that show’s gone now, and I refuse to go to the IAT at Fairford even though that’s only 60 miles or so away. I tried Cosford in the Midlands last year and it would have been fine apart from the terrible weather, so I may give that another go next year-forecast depending-but generally speaking, the South and East have WAY too much airshow coverage, at the expense of everywhere else.

Controversial comment time-

Instead of Duxford having the same airshow four or five times a year, or whatever it is now, it would be nice to see the same aircraft…well, actually GO somewhere(!) and for there to be a decent oldies airshow a little more central to the country! There was I thinking ‘Great!’ when ‘Great Warbirds’ moved to Wroughton…briefly.

I shall now run and hide, and return you to the main topic…

hi Guys

3 years ago I lived just off of J7 of the M11 at Church Langley – a “posh” part of ‘Arlow – now I live down in deepest Cornwall (about 350 miles away !!!) so will have to give it a miss – no doubt some kind soul will write a brief note of the proceedings (the polite parts that is!!)Visits to air shows and museums in the London area are only a dream now – too far to drive in a weekend !!!

Wishing all the other forum users all the best for Christmas and the New Year. cheers – Allan

RE: Duxford get-together Sun 5th Jan

Right, I have a lovely first prize for our unofficial raffle….remember ALL proceeds will be going to the Mark Hanna Burns Charity….

the first prize will be an original movie prop from the Battle of Britain Film….it is a number plate fitted to one of the German military vehicles. The winner will be able to spend hours of fun searching for it whilst watching the film again and again! It is a must prize for any fim fan!

My daughters have donated a huge jar of sweets as another prize.

If we can get an official address at IWM, we can give out raffle tickets for a donation to people on the forum should they wish to take part.

I shall be putting on a small display of Film memorabilia.

regards to all

That is good news Ashley….

but I like the idea of us giving a wodge to the Mark Hanna Burns charity, a sort of donation and vote of appreciation all in one from the Forum

is there anyway that we could see if those people who cannot make the day but wish to support the charity side could send donations to a central address (possibly your official address Ashley?!) and then we could make a bigger cheque to the charity?! Just a thought.

Hehe. They obviously want to keep people like me interested. We can play party games with the lights out – you lot can shine torches at me and throw things to knock me off my perch, and I will try and drop things on your head while twisting around to avoid it. Just like the Ruhr in 1945. While Ashley stands on a table with her Boa.

Sounds good fun, I wonder if Moggy can be persuaded?

Ashley,

sounds like a good idea. Any money left over at the end of the day would make a small donation and the cause you mentioned is as good a cause as you could possibly imagine.

Tony’s idea was a good one. If any of us have any particular talent such as photography, modelling, tap dancing why not show them off? It might be the only time we ever have an appreciative audience.

RE: Duxford get-together Sun 5th Jan

Alexis…I thought there might well be a number of you who are Friends of Duxford etc…

I am thinking that perhaps it is best that you make your own way through admissions (there may not be 20 or more of us who have to pay to get in e.g. those FoD members, Spitfire polishers 😉

I am awaiting details of Robert’s fee/expenses but was wondering how you guys feel about a general levy of say £4 (this does depend on Robert’s expenses)…any money left after covering expenses could go to a charity (The charity set up in Mark Hanna’s name for burns research is the first that comes to mind) Without knowing how many people are coming, it is perhaps best to set a small charge now and those who need to pay to get into the Museum, do so on the day…
