Duxford question

I was looking on the duxford update website tonight and noticed on the picture of TFC’s thunderbolt that there is what looks like an inverted V engine (german?) anyone know more?

Yup, It’s a Griffon. You can never beat Bruce (not literally spoken of course).

I can tell from that picture! The black mounting is a Spitfire mount – unmistakeable.

Its a Griffon, and it has Spitfire mounts on it…

Bruce

Can you tell that from the picture, or have you seen it?

Ahh, so it IS upside down then!?

As I was saying, it looks like a semi-wreck and it is just dumped on a pallett rather than being in any sort of frame. I would imagine the only way a Merlin or Griffon will free-stand is upside down…..

Wonder what TFC have in mind for it?

When you say ARCo, you mean HAC!

HAC Storch

Possibly. I seem to recall HAC were going to fit an Argus V-8 to their Jacobs(?)-engined MS.500 for better authenticity at some point.

Maybe an inverted V-8 from a storch? (uneducated speculative wild guess..)

Here’s the pic. It looks vaguely like a DB engine (from my recollection of building a model of a Bf109 with an engine fitted), but I’m no expert. I wouldn’t have said they’d lie an upright V-12 upside down, however.
