Duxford Sept Show

I was having a quick skim through some pictures on another forum at Southport and can’t help thinking the crowd were short changed today at Duxford……..not in the quality of flying, but in the line-up.
I remember when the Duxford September show had a real top notch line-up.
Today’s was more in keeping with an October show.
The Southport flying programme looked more like what Duxford should have been putting on, and would have in the past.
Not sure what Southport are doing to be able to land the Reds and the Blades to name but two, over Duxford.
This is not to take anything away from the participants today, every one of which were great, just felt the flying programme lacked the usual ‘A listers’

Pete Truman, get off your high horse.

I´ve no idea about your qulifications, maybe you are a certified Buchon driver, but judging by your posts on here you were not even there on the day. How on earth dear you say the pilot of the Buchon displayed “Stubborn bravado” during the display by getting airborne? These guys are professional, and they judged the conditions to be within limits. These guys know what they are doing, they took off, did the display and landed without incident.

You on the other hand, do not have a clue about all of this. So spare everyone the next lesson in armchair aviation. Next time you would like to open your mouth, think about the fact that you might be doing an irreversible damage to display flying of old aircraft by implying irresponsible handling during displays.

If I had said what I really wanted to say I´d be banned forever.

Gents,

I’ve cleaned up this thread a bit.

Please dont lets try and second guess professionals, who are not about to put themselves in danger, let alone the public, and indeed their aeroplanes. I think they are more than capable of making the right decision without referring to armchair pilots.

The airfield operators took all appropriate steps to make sure the airfield was ready for operations, luckily the Hawk was first up to kick off the show while below, the runways were checked.
The show ran pretty well, after the 1330 deluge, its a wonder anything flew that day.
Incidently, full marks to ‘Flapjack’ for his slow speed pass and wave with the canopy slid back…….in a Hunter:eek:

I agree. The Buchon is operated with the utmost professionalism and respect. If it was flown at Duxford last weekend, or anywhere else for that matter, then I would be certain that the conditions were within the limits for its safe operation.

The Dx based & visiting crews operated the machines as they should have, with the upmost professionalism, hence the cancellation of the mass spitfire slot at the end of saturdays flying programme, due to excessive gusting across the active.

You say that, but I see that the Buchon flew on Saturday. Given the strength of the crosswinds and the Bf 109’s reputation that more were lost in landing/take off accidents during the war than in combat, it seems madness to me that, like them or not, a rare type was flown and displayed in such conditions. I wonder if permission was obtained from the owner, miles away in the USA, before it was allowed to be flown, or, I don’t like to say it, a bit of stubborn bravado on the part of the DX based crew, yes the party should go on if at all possible, but not if there’s the remotest chance of risk to an historic airframe, I wasn’t impressed, I’m glad I wasn’t there to see it happen.

Stubborn bravado??

I can tell you there was no such thing.

If the weather was too bad for flying the Buchon then it would have stayed on the ground.

I quite agree with Robbo,if you were not even there how can you comment?

Pete, why don’t you stick to commenting about your area of knowledge and let the Buchon pilot decide how he operates the aeroplane. You weren’t even present so how on earth can you offer an opinion?

You will find find that many of the participants had to cancel due to the terrible weather conditions over the UK in the last few days, which claimed the live’s of several people.

It was amazing the airshow took place at all after the massive downpours in the morning & early afternoon.

Aircraft did’nt appear due to not being booked but becuase the operators correctly put safety before display commitments

£5 at duxford brought a rather poor excuse for a hot-dog – how can they justify that?
