It is nice to see and hear the Dakota replacing the Lancaster some times. I got to the state where I was taking no notice of the BBMF because I had seen them too many times. The first time I saw the Dakota along with the Spitfire and Hurricane it renewed my interest in The Flight. I rate the sound of a pair of Pratt & Whitneys up there with the four Merlins.:D

A second Lanc would be a great idea but you would all possibly have to club together again to build a new hanger to store it!!!!!
I believe it has alot to do with making sure the whole country sees the Lanc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doubt very much it had anything to do with the organisers of Leg Ends, probably more to do with the allocation by the RAF. Maybe if we all club together and buy them a second Lanc one could appear at every show that expresses an interest on particular days as they are able to do with the Spitfires and Hurricanes.
Perhaps we should be grateful that there is a Lancaster operating in the UK rather than beating up the BBMF for not allocating it as we would like, I’m sure those at East Fortune last weekend were very pleased to see it.

“Duxford is NOT the centre of the universe…”

…it just feels like it to some of us sometimes! :p

My problem would not be with the Lanc not appearing at a particular show-I mean my God, I’ve gone hundreds of miles just to see it in the past-but rather with the Dak ‘replacing’ it. BUT, we’ve not long ago had this argument, so moving on swiftly… 😉

Thank you for posting this info Eddy 🙂

I see from this site that the weekend of the September show at Duxford, the Lanc is due to display at 7 different locations including Elvington…no doubt the folks who see the Lanc this weekend will enjoy doing so…so why should she “do” Duxford over these other locations?

It may surprise some of you to hear this coming from me, but Duxford is NOT the centre of the universe…if another venue books an aircraft that Duxford doesn’t…fair play to them…as long as the aircraft get bookings and stay flying, that’s what matters.

And if you really desperately want to see a particular aircraft…then you will find your way to that aircraft…whatever.

Just my two cents

Quite right Yak 11 Fan…

I believe the BBMF tries it’s hardest to meet the many requests for appearances of their aircraft, from small fetes to big shows like Duxford…and to do this, particularly in the busy summer months this could mean in one day the Lanc appearing at one show with one of the Spits and Hurricanes, another of the Spits appearing somewhere else, and the Dakota trundling off to another part of the country entirely.

When the Lanc missed the May show at Duxford, I was really disappointed, but consoled myself with the fact that there will be other shows, or I can pay her a visit at Coningsby (ok, not an option at the moment but let’s not nitpick) I would rather she was tucked up safe in her hanger then a horrific accident should befall her and her crew (And yes, I am sure we all feel like this, it’s just sometimes folks need a reminder)

And, according to the BBMF website, Dakota only on the Saturday, with the Dak, Spit and Hurri displaying only on the Sunday

Poor show, chaps, especially with the Lanc missing the May show due to weather, and the Dak missing Legends.

These things happen, the IWM can’t be responsible for the weather or aircraft un-serviceability (Dak & Legends). Maybe the Lancaster is elsewhere on that date, as it was on the Leg Ends weekend. Can’t see how this can be regarded as a poor show.

The Seahawk may be a pure stock BAe Hawk from FRADU at Culdrose perhaps.

The RNHF Stringbag (<– that one) will also be attending the show.

A TWIN SQUIRREL?

A true ‘must not miss’ 😉

Worth the price of entry on its own.

Pity there seem to be no C152s
