Duxford Show, from the M11 end

As most of the photos posted of the show so far appear to be from the LWH end of the airfield, here are a few from the other end. Although it was heavily helicopter biased, I quite enjoyed the show and the weather played ball although it did turn rather dark late on in the afternoon.

I normally use only the ‘auto’ or ‘shutter’ functions on my camera but I think I have, after a long, long time finally sussed out how to use shutter and apature at the same time. My blurred/reject rate has dropped dramatically and I am quite pleased with the results that I came away with.

On with the show and I think an opportunity was missed on Sunday morning as the bulk of the helicopters arrived. ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ should have been played over the PA system.

Fuel in, Fuel out. Not as serious as it looks.

After the wing tanks were filled, it was pushed back and the nice fireman hosed the place down

One reason I like the M11 end is because you can get some good topsides, especially when the sun is out.

Great photos, I’ve just invested in a new camera (EOS 400D) and 70-300mm lens, its great to know that this sort of image is now within my reach. Cant wait to get started!

All the best,

Thanks Brian, he is a ‘new’ member of the volunteer Canberra crew this year, although he has many years of experience of looking after her and her sisters. He was in the RAF and after that he was at RAE Bedford , with ‘163 among others.

Great shots there Brian, can i ask which camera you have, and what settings you used to get those props looking good – mine are always stationary looking. 😮

Jamie

I have a Sony Alpha 100 and most of those photos were taken with a 70-300mm zoom lens. The shutter speed for the helicopters range from 1/200 to 1/320 and the faster moving aircraft range from 1/250 to 1/400. I start with a high shutter speed and on each pass I bring the shutter speeds down until the image starts to go out of focus. In amongst that lot I usually have a couple of good images. Hope that helps Jamie.

Nice shots. Now if we can just get someone to paint the shiney white helmets to look like leather or canvas……it just spoils the whole look:eek:

Looks like it was a beautiful day for flying and shooting!
