I flew to Stansted on Friday morning, going to the hotel at Cambridge by train. I was in Duxford by around 11 a.m., I think Friday was the perfect day, much sun, few people, very good training flights and quite few people in the hangars. Very good performance by Patrouille de France and Red Arrows as well, very good Hurricane formation and display. Stunning were the 16 Spitfires, very impressing. I liked the Sea Fury and Bearcat, you could hear all those horses under the cowling running…. Nice display of the 2 Bรผckers as well, especially liked the Jungmann, the silver one. Astonishing tight turns and display in a quite narrow space, just turning on itยดs heels… It was all in all the very best airshow I have ever seen. Thanks to everybody involved, who made this show possible, especially organisers and pilots. Very well done, I enjoyed every minute.

Nice monopod action, there was some lovely light to be had very early on. It was quite a view across that flightline.
Good thing you got in there early, you wouldn’t have to whistle at the press to get out of the way like some other self-important IWM (I think) twit was on Sunday morning so he could get his photos (God forbid someone is made to wait 30 seconds). Surely a simple ‘excuse me’ would suffice; it is, after all, how normal people communicate!
Duxford~

And not a single hi-viz jacket in sight! ๐
Or in my case, two stitched together. They don’t make ’em for hefty fellas like me. ๐
Lovely show with a great atmosphere (particularly Saturday, with the massive crowds creating a real buzz about the place), some superb flying and a finale that I’d consider to be the best multi-warbird set piece I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot of them). Must admit to having the man-tears when the Spitfires departed. You felt that deep in your soul.

It raised some eyebrows on Flyer Forums also.

Glad you made it down OK.
A big pile-up could have cancelled the whole event ๐ก

I caught the end of that Chieftain’s ‘fighter approach’ on video which you can see at www.focalplanes.co.uk
Certainly not the recommended way of avoiding the village!
You can hear the power being re-applied which made the landing even ‘later’.Very impressed with the Hurricane formation and the 16 Spitfires were truly beautiful to see and hear in a really great display. Well done to those who set up and took part in them.
I’ll post HD videos of those, hopefully tomorrow.

Dear fellow spotters and readers.
I am in fact one of the 7 passengers on board the Piper Cheyenne performing the horrible landing at Duxford. I am an B737 Captain and was shocked….only after my verbaly intervention, he put power on and performed a goaround after having stall warning AND stall buffet. Very surprisingly he cut power, abandoned the goaround and landed half way down the runway. Several no does……If anyone of you can get me more pictures and videos, I would really appreciate in order to perform a profound tell off with this fellow pilot!
Thanks very much in advance!

I went to Duxford the weekend before to see the S-38, and the gentleman on the entrance said they had effectively sold out most tickets by then ( I forget if he said advance tickets or not) but he advised even then that they were gonna have a full house!!

I got there at 08.25 on Sunday and no problems, I haven’t missed a show at Dux this year but I always get there early to get into the car park over the road otherwise you end up having to go miles down the road to then turn around to get on the M11/or head east if you park on the land warfare side as you get forced to turn left on exit there.
I did note the stalls seemed cleared out after a good saturday!
I recommend also about 13.30 to get yourself near the fence for an uninterupted view before the flying starts at 2.00. Mind you I was at the middle gate [ west of the control tower] and started to regret it as vehicles on the flight line started to park up to my right blocking the view a bit!
At last I have seen four Hurricanes in the air!

I don’t have the break down for each day but a total of 44,000 for the weekend which is the largest attendance ever for an airshow at Duxford, must have mostly been the Saturday as the Sunday wasn’t too bad.

By the sound of it your strop was well justified on the Saturday – the traffic seemed to catch everyone with their pants down. I’m afraid you may have to wait perhaps five years for another biggie like this (75th anniversary), especially with so many Hurricanes and Spits. Perhaps by 2015 they will be able to put up six or more Hurricanes and as many as 20 Spits (on the assumption that the BBMF will still not participate in Duxford’s big balbos).
The next show with similar amounts of warbirds, but not so many Spits but loads of Mustangs (five this year) will be Flying Legends in early July 2011.

sat iwm Duxford
Got the family ready Saturday morning left home 9.00 am for a 30 minute journey my 5 year old seemed more excited than me and definately the wife!! lol.I decided to use the park and ride guess what think i would of made it if i used my car.Waited 45 minutes for the only bus running to the park and ride as informed by a bus company worker. Then sat for 2 hours in a bus on the M11 with a show from the Red arrows which was awesome we finally got to Duxford at approx 1.30pm.I threw my toys from the pram because i wanted a good look round first and then relax and see the airshow so like an idiot stayed on the bus with most of the other people.I thought it would be an expensive day out for like a tight wad.Wrong im gutted and guess ill never get chance to see anything like this now. This was to be the start of me going to airshows as i have been to an airshow at Duxford about 5 years ago.Thought it would be good to take my son regular and get him into it guys do they fly this amount of spits anywhere else or was this a one off what airshows with a ww2 theme are the best to go to and when do they happen i know its a bit late now but at least i can plan ahead for next year.Although not the 70 anni of the bob and wont get to meet any of the actuall guys who took part.I have been kicking myself ever since and im gutted i got a strop on with Duxford for the management of the traffic!!

Pointless ‘quoting’ removed – Mods
I actually thought Duxford’s BoB tribute with the 19 Sqn Hawks sequence/minutes silence and the 16 Spit’s far outstripped RIAT’s BoB tribute effort.
