Duxford Spring Airshow 17-05-2009

Hi
Despite the windy conditions that resulted in a clutch of aircraft not being able to display, it still felt like a full show.

I have not seen a B25 go so fast downwind in a long time and judging by the maneuvering it seemed that the windy conditions were being taken to its full advantage. I also thought it made a very nice change to include non standard display aircraft in the flying display. I thought the Islanders and the RJ showed themselves very well with proper display like passes.

I also liked the RAF VC10. When it spooled up its engines on the last flyby , just for a moment , I thought it was about to climb away in an old style Vulcan climb out but that was not to be. These aircraft are getting on a bit in life so there is a need to be gentle with them.

I was also impressed by the two Chipmunks approaching to land in good formation from the North East.

Generally I would like to give my full appreciation for the impressive displays to all those involved despite the high winds.
Crowd levels at the Eastern end were rather low but I am sure had it have been a nice sunny day, Duxford Airfield would have had a far bigger number of punters.

I also found conditions for photography to be challenging.

Any comments are welcome, good or bad though preferably constructive.

Thanks

Martin

Scotavia, the markings on the red and blue Islander were described by the commentator as the Brigade of Guards house colours, which may of course be the pre-war colours chosen for the Kings Flight. It could also be a drop plane for one of the Army parachute teams?

Hi Chris

Seems both owned by their makers in one way or another. The white Islander is owned by BN Group Ltd and the other by FLy BN Ltd both based at Bembridge IOW.

Cheers

Like the Islanders. Who do they belong to?
