Duxford Static Shots – 07 Sep 07

TFC had some of their collection outside so had a good ‘walkaround’ of the P-40. I believe the Shackleton, now minus outer wings, will be moved to the restoration hanger when the Varsity moves out. There has also been a shuffle around of many of the exhibits in preparation for the IWM bid for a Lottery Fund grant.

Oh goody, another Spitfire. Hmmm Firefly or Spitfire? Firefly any day 😀 Bex

I’ll second that. As for the wrecked cockpit a Zero was my initial guess too looking at the shape of the canopy framing. I can’t think of anything else with the same shape.

Thanks for posting some very nice pictures Brian…

Does anyone what plans are in place for the Vickers Varsity WJ945 currently held in Hangar 5?

Looks like she is getting some attention… 🙂

Andrew

A survey and a good clean.

So where will they put the Airborne Forces Hall, in the gap left by the detonated hangar or between the American Museum and the LWH, which seems the logical place to put it, though it will take away a lot of airshow car parking.

re

Airbourne forces hall? Tell me more!

Personally a martime building would be logical with the boats, Sunderland and Shackleton in it.

Seems that now IWM have finished Airspace (well, virtually anyway) they are concentrating on bringing other items out of store or rejigging, now if they can only get the theming sorted (ie Phantom not next to Typhoon, next to Brisfit etc) then it’ll be back to business as usual.

They are staring to theme. Where TFC used to park their flying aeroplanes in 3 Hanger, all now in north side of Hanger 2, is now a Navy line up with the Sea Hawk parked next to the boat.

In the Restoration hanger, as was, is the ‘Storch’, JU-52 and a few assorted other German WWII items.

Great pics PP thanks for that – the Flugwerk 190 is causing a headache or two with CAA approval of type as I understand it – but frankly v pleased to see a ‘190’ at DX…. good to see the latest movements there, like the Queen Mary with the Vamp on its back, nice touch.

I guess the next project in the pipeline will be the proposed Airborne Forces Hall?

I’d like to see the Zero in a suitable diorama a la The Forgotten War in the Land Warfare Hall….

See HERE

Brian

That the Mk XVIII.

I suspect the reference is to Mk 22 – PK624, the bare fuselage just by one of the entrances?

Excellent set of pics there!
Its really encouraging to see british post war aircraft getting the attention and work that they deserve.
I didnt realise that any of the new 190s were over here either.

Zero fighter. I’d imagine its in the LONG LONG queue…. difficult resoration though – paper thin skin, and its not in the best of health.

The FW190 is one of the Flug Werks reproductions / follow on production run / whatever…. I’d hazard a guess that it will fly when the design gets its approval. It all seems to have gone quiet for news of Flug Werks. I must be listening in the wrong places….. Does it belong to Tom Blair , Paul Allen or TFC, or someone else?

Good pics by the way!

Here’s my question though – Whats the plans for the firefly?

‘Scuse my ignorance, I didn’t know any of the Flug Works 190’s were in the UK yet!-joys of having kids eh!….I’ve lost track of whats where for the T.B.-looks very nice.:)

As for the Fireflies I believe its right that one is for static & one a flyer.

Looks like the Victor is about to get some TLC – goodo, I’d hate to see the old girl go the way of many of her sisters
