The sun was shining between the clouds and the wind was not as blustery as it had been the day before as I arrived early at Duxford on my bike. Still dressed for the cold though, the clouds departed and it got quite warm and I though it might have been a mistake dressing for winter. Not long after the flying display started, it clouded over again and the winter clothing came in handy.
The display was enjoyable but nothing special, with a good cross section of aviation hardware flying. A noticeable absentee was the Fighter Collection T.20 Sea Fury that had fuel pump problems. Highlight for me was the Miles Hawk Speed Six as this was the first time I had seen this aircraft flying. I didn’t stay for the Red Arrows at the end of the show and it’s the quickest I’ve got out of Duxford on a show day. I could see their smoke trails in the wing mirrors of my bike as I was heading home on the M11.
The weather for the flying display went from bright sunshine to complete cloud cover and at times got quite dark, as well as cold, making photographic conditions quite challenging. Fortunately the cloud base was high for full rolling routines and the plus point for the day, weather wise, being that there was no rain to spoil anything.
