Duxford, Sun 26 Sept

Myself and Benyboy are making the long trek down from deepest darkest Yorkshire on Sunday, for annual pilgrimage to Duxford. Was just wondering if anyone else off this ‘ere forum is likely to be there that day?!

It was the finest pounce I’ve seen in a long time, respect is due!
The hangars did seem a little bare. By the way I feel we should extend our apologies to anyone working in the buildings behind the hangars on Sunday, who was startled by 2 idiots peering in through the windows at the ‘hidden’ goodies…

£8 for the 1 72 YB-49. I should have got him down a bit but I had to have it before Blue2  Shame about the Thud but it saved me a few quid 🙂

It has been a few years since my last visit to Duxford. There seems to be a lot of empty hangar space at the moment. Definitely space for an F-14 now 😡

The wink was lost in the post eh?
Reckon it must be the lighting in that bit of the hangar. We commented on how strange it was. The only one of the Victor I’m half happy with is the tail on shot.
Only the Fort, Cat, 2 Spits, Harvard and Dragons of the ‘active’ fleet out in the rain. The Dragons flew for a short while in the morning, before the weather clamped in.

I know! That’s why I made the remark – I forgot the “wink”….

Looks as though the hangars were the place to be looking at those lovely but sodden Dragon Rapides.

The bias towards the Victor should be explained by my avatar pic mate!

Will do……..you sure have to have your wits about you at those bargain trade stands. Happy modelling! Btw I enjoyed your photos but looking at the Victor ( how come that was included and not the Shack? ) and the Typhoon they have a “grainy” feel, exactly as mine of the same aircraft. Yet those in the other hangars are crisp and clear.

Be lucky Sky High!
Was very funny when Benyboy was knobbled with the 105. He literally put it down for a sec while I showed him the 110 that had caught my attention, he turned back round to gather it up… and there it was, gone! 😮

For the 1/72 110 in full Nachtjager trim? Somewhere between 11 and 13 English pounds between you, me and the gatepost. Is ver’ nice…

MMmmmmm – niiice! I am hoping there might be a few goodies on October 10th.:)

There are implications here of bargain prices – may I ask exactly how many green ones exchanged hands? Promise it’ll go no further…………;)

The Israeli set was tempting, but the 110 was the better choice I think. And Benyboy was gazumped on an F105. Turn your back for one second…

Bomb damage at Balham Underground station, October 1940. This view shows part of the huge crater in the road caused by the bomb which penetrated the station tunnel, killing 111 people. LT-type bus, LT669, which fell into the crater, can be seen on the right.

SMS88 – I am regreting not buying the Israeli set myself. Blue2 got him self a nice bf110 from the same stall. I came away with a nice 1 72 YB-49.

Blue2 – I need to find a cable for the camera before I can get the pics up. It seems that Kodak dont only not use SD cards they also dont use standard USB Cables.

Billericay Dickie?

I’ll get me coat…

Actually, before I do, I have a feeling that the bus is the same model in the famous bus-in-bomb-crater photo. Am I right, or am I just spending too long looking at the back end of a bus?

Adrian

3 of those 1940 RTs were badly damaged by bombs but I have never seen any photos of them in craters!
I was at Duxford on the 26th because I like warbirds and buses. All the rain in the afternoon put hundreds of wet anoraks into the American museum:p
The market is excellent, some of the dealers offered huge discounts on new boxed Corgi aviation models, I was very tempted but refrained from paying a mere 20 sovs for an Israeli pair of Mustang and Mosquito. Book bargains from the estates of deceased enthusiasts are very much in evidence at this annual end of season market so I go with plenty of green each year……..

Isn’t there a CoC ruling on posting this sort of picture?

There soon will be.

Although one thing does strike me about the bus show. When you go in the road in is swarming with bus spotters noting down fleet numbers, photographing every single one of the bl**dy things, gibbering into the dictaphone etc. Anorak is one of many words that leapt to mind when I first saw this rather sad phenomenon.
Then I realised, that must be exactly how Joe Public percieves the likes of us who use this forum I suppose, only subbing buses for aircraft…

One thing I have noticed with the swarms of bus spotters at our local museum open day is that a lot of them seem to have ancient camera gear – Praktikas and Zenits are particularly in vogue . I suppose they don’t need a telephoto lens so very old cameras are probably good enough unless you go the whole hog and upgrade to digital.
