Has anyone else spotted the news that a certain group of people who had problems with their hobby in a Mediterranean country recently, in a very high profile way, have apparently been invited to attend this weekend’s Duxford show as guests of the IWM.
What IS Duxford thinking of! This is just plain bonkers!

Oh nice the Belgian Air Force F-16 and Patrouille de France are going to be there again, Will we see the F-16 Spitfire flypast again maybe with the Typhoon:cool: I see that the BBMF will be displaying this year wonder if it will be Spitfire ‘The Last’ PS888 flown by the boss? and one other thing is it could also be that last sole hawk display

Twas a great shame, but the cancellation made sense given the jets VFR operations………roll on Duxford October 5th, a show that on paper looks more promising than the Sept show.
Where have you see what is likely to be flying pls?

Thought I’d made a big mistake at 13:30 today (Sunday) as the rain was torrential but then, lo-and-behold, ten minutes before flying was due to start it stopped…
…by 15:30 the weather was perfect…..but crushing disappointment…..no Vulcan! 🙁
I missed the announcement (although I had deep reservations when the promised Vulcan ‘progress updates’ never happened); so what exactly happened?
Bad weather en route curtailed her flying to Duxford, she did manage to get to Southport to display there.

You want to get your eyes tested, thats a Hurricane on the gate not a Spitfire!!!
DOH!!! I need to get my glasses checked. Hang my head in shame:mad::mad:

Could not make Duxford this weekend as I had to go to Suffolk for the weekend.
Passing through DX on Friday afternoon there was rain in the air and I did notice that the Spitfire was now on a perch by the entrance gate facing the museum.
On the way back on Sunday before the show started we saw one of the Rapides landing in very heavy rain. Now you see it – now you dont, thought the pilot did well as we could not see very well even with the wipers on fast!!!.
We again noticed that the Spitfire on the perch was now facing the road, is it acting as a windsock??
Brian.

🙁 12-30 and the weather 15 miles from Duxford is abysmal at the moment, even that couple in the photo will be pushed for any sunshine today unless it improves alot in the next hour and a half:mad:
By: trumper - 7th September 2008 at 10:13
🙂 i know the photo of the couple was probably posted tongue in cheek but i thought it was lovely. An elderly couple still holding hands with each other who obviously care about each other.
I wonder what tales they could tell of the past.
Being with someone you love at a place you want to be and in a bit of sunshine = perfect:)

It was a great shame about the weather – I am glad I went as there were some great displays of adverse weather flying!
Half the crowd went home when the first squal hit, only some brave souls stayed until the premature end. By then I nearly had the ‘tank bank’ to myself
Pity I cannot take much worth posting, but here are my two favourites! A Great display by FF, enthralling the entire crowd 😀

I went yesterday and had a brilliant day even though it was very quiet compared to other Duxford shows, the flying was excellant the Vulcan and the hawk displayed before we had any rain so that was good but the display of the day has to go to the F86 sabre who’s whole display took place in poor visibilty during heavy rain.
Shame the BBMF Lancaster went down or it would have been the icing on the cake as they were going to repeat the Waddington display with the Vulcan!!
Here is a couple of pics i took yesterday
And i got soaked taking this one

I notice that on the photography forum, one brave soul from here went, along with the Vulcan. I considered going for as long as posible, but it was a bit grim down here, yes, you should support your local airshow, but I’m afraid that I didn’t fancy getting togged up in my waterproofs and shivering behind someones windbreak again, I’m getting too long in the tooth for that.
What concerns me is that we had exteremely heavy rain at leaving time last night and it’s been on and off all night, finishing with a truly massive downpour this morning, I don’t know what that may have done to the car parks. For all of you going today, I salute you.

I won’t be able to go, for those who do go, make the most of the event and hope the weather may hold out.

Looking at the BBC at lunch sunday is looking better. Saturday is ok but id say you are almost certain to encounter a shower.

Any update on the best day to go please or should I use my normal method of flipping a coin?
Is the Vulcan flying around to drive the rain away?;)

Hiya Graham.
Any news on when we’ll be able to hire your taxiable Spitfire replica? There are a couple of events I may be involved with who would be interested. PM me any details please.
regards,
