Duxford Thursday 29th June heads up.

Duxford marketing have asked me to post the following:-

“there is quite a good avro photocall happening ‘for 1 day only’ tomorrow, 29th June. Lancaster, York, Vulcan, ANson and CF100 all lined up together”

Come along if you can!

Well, as reported in another thread the BBMF Lanc isn’t landing on Sunday anyway.

Maybe I am missing the point here but besides the people who move the aircraft and indeed the people who have either photographed or indeed planned the movements maybe it’s time to consider the A.V.R.O York !
She is a fine tribute to the late Paddy Porter who was involved in her saving and the workers of DAS who have slaved for countless hours on what was essentially quite a derelict airframe when it arrived at Duxford. Top marks for painting her in DAN-AIR markings when I guess there were several other tempting schemes she could have easily have gone into . Lastly maybe in the overall scheme of things the crews that flew these civil aircraft into Berlin during the airlift deserve a mention too !

Well said that man.

The aircraft looks superb, & is indeed a tribute to everyone concerned.
Dan Air must be the best represented independent airline in UK museums & deservedly so. For many years they made the effort to save examples of several different types that they operated. What a shame that policy wasn’t still active when the prototype Avro 748 was retired from Dan Air, I assume the people concerned had retired by then, I think Lasham had already been sold off .
Personally I believe in keeping aircraft markings relevant to the airframe concerned, if it wasn’t for that I would love to see the Ambassador in Autair or BKS colours. Perhaps someone will save the 748 G-ATMJ & paint it in the Autair scheme.

moocher…as an IWM employee (a cataloguer, so I guess I’m one of those poor sods in archiving ;)) I asked in case your post was directed at a specific individual and I had missed something. That’s all. I know you have clarified who your post was levelled at in subsequent posts, but in case anyone else is under the impression that all staff employed by the IWM at Duxford have no interest in the aircraft and the history of Duxford and of the RAF, then I can assure you that this is not the case.

I think both sides of this argument have merit. Lessons can be (and I believe in some cases have been) learnt. Without the private operators Duxford would simply be another Hendon, packed full of lovely aircraft, but dead to the senses. But please remember folks, there are IWM people doing good stuff at Duxford (and don’t worry, I don’t think I’m all that, there are folks producing more worthwhile work than me, but I hope I am doing my bit in recording and preserving history).

Good points well made, you get my vote.

The ladies who got this line-up arranged and spread the word so people could go see it, you mean? Yes, clearly just hangers-on. I wonder why the IWM bother sometimes. In their position with crap like the above being posted I know I certainly wouldn’t bother with any future opportunities.

If it wasn’t for the above crap –

If it wasn’t for people making comments and enlightening certain parties, the ladies who informed you wouldn’t have known what to inform you about so don’t sit staring through your lens and pontificating, read all the other posts regarding this subject.

Oh and i wasn’t the only one commenting on the lack of / missed marketing oppertunities.

If anything we were trying to help the IWM.

It would be interesting to know when the people who are moaning and complaining on this forum about Duxford, last visited Duxford?.

On all the visits I have had to Duxford this year, and that is 18 times now, I have always been impressed with what I have seen, aircraft being moved around, testflights etc, and I for one am extremely grateful for what is at Duxford both from the IWM and the private companies.

Brian

Last week, twice.
otherwise, it depends upon when we need the aeroplane.

I usualy move our aeroplanes or open the doors so vistors can photograph them better.

No need for that tone. It’s apparent that you need something explaining; there are several current and former employees of IWM on these boards, two of which might reasonably have thought you were responding directly to them when you talked of “offending”.

Marketing department.

Is that better. Nothing against the the poor sods restoring the aeroplanes or archiving, just the administrative hangers on.

Better……

obviously a nerve touched somewhere.
