Just as a matter of interest, what was Mr Grey’s first ‘Warbird’?

And best of all, he has not just kept them in a private field and flown them once in a while for his own personel interest, but have let them be seen by the public where they belong- in the air. And not just the UK but in a lot of European countries! I kinda wonder how many people around Europe have been bitten by the bug after attending an airshow where TFC has displayed…

If you were SG would you even CARE what people are saying on aviation forums? I know I wouldn’t.

Nor would I but I would be less open about what I was doing. When touring the TFC the staff is always friendly and seem to enjoy talking to visitors. Also a lot of aircraft types have passed the hangar doors creating a lot of diversity.

Therefore SC is one of the worlds leading warbirds collectors.

Hip hip hurray!

My thoughts exactly, I do not know how SG has made his money nor do i have any wish to know thats none of my business. I am just glad i have had the chance to see many Warbirds through the Fighter Collection that i never would have seen flying otherwise, Aircraft such as P-38,P-39,P-63, Hawk,P-51c,Hellcat,Wildcat,Bearcat etc, That i am eternally grateful for. We are lucky to have such a great collector in the UK.
I feel Stephen Grey is like all of us that collect just on a grander scale, You collect for the affection or intrest you have for what you are collecting not the money, If you thought about the money you probably would not collect at all.

Which makes you wonder if Mr Grey had actually bought his first warbird if he knew that so many people were discussing his toys. But then again, there was no internet in those days:D

Cheers

I don’t think Stephen Grey made his money by operating warbirds, and I suspect substantial amounts of cash have been put into the collection to make it as interesting as it has been over the past 25 years or so!

He certainley didn’t…….but warbirds have certainley used up a good chunk of it.:)

But then it’s no different from the money I’ve spent of vintage cars and motorbikes over the years, with not a lot to show for it, other than good memories…….. it’s just a question of scale….his toy box being just a tad larger….;)

It’s worth pointing out that if you visit any air display you are helping fund the operation of old aircraft.

Thats why we should all be so greatful to this man and his franchise, and all stop moaning about paying £30 to go to legends as it helps to keep these pieces of history gracing our skies, and not gathering dust in a museam.

Yep I agree, but one chap asked how to get more peeps into the show and particularly families. I for one believe the money is well well worth it, tho’ I tend not to take the family (partly for cost and partly for sheer selfishness on my part). Love Legends to bits

surely TFC is a business? SG may be wealthy but I would figure to get that way in the 1st place he would make sure a certain amount is going into the kitty.

I assure you that busines operates at a loss.

Most restorations cost the owners more than the market value of a flying example.

I think their serious income comes from Stephen Grey’s wallet 😉

thats what meant, stephen Grey has to have an income.

re:

I would guess their serious income comes from trading aircraft, the sale of one or 2 a year would be far more than income from airshows, especially over the winter.

Is there any news on Princess Elizabeth?
