There is a very “light weight” thread on Pprune intimating the possible scrapping of the VC-10 at Duxford.
I just wondered if any of those in the know could shine some light on this.
I asumed it was just hogwarts on pprune but it would be nice to have it confirmed.
Or is it being replaced by an ex RAF unit ?

Yup, the reason the RB211 test bed never flew again was they’d filled the cockpit full of concrete, poured in through the DV window to stop it bouncing around in winds… The VC10ski had a tail stand.

This has been touted around for a while but the VC10 is owned by DAS and not the IWM so the museum pays nothing towards her except space (and they have lots).
Even though she is easily the largest aircraft outside now she is well looked after and from what i understand the museum collecting policy at Duxford is anything they get now MUST go inside which rules out VC10, Hercules and is the reason why they recently turned down a R1 nimrod.
The museum recently also got a shock as the cost of restoring both the Victor and Shackleton was very large due mostly to the years they were left outside and nothing else which sort of points to why they assumed this policy.
The only thing that surprised me about the VC10 was she only has 2 engines in her not because they only had 2 but because she can sit on her tail too easily with 4 in.
