Duxford's Autumn Airshow through Jamie's camera

yo..
I know it’s kinda old news now seeing as the air show was a week ago, however I’ve finally stuck some of my pics of Duxford’s autumn airshow up over at http://www.jamierees.co.uk/gallery/Duxfords+Autumn+Airshow/

Please enjoy, and tell me whatcha think (I’ve only got a crap camera)

Jamie.

SM845

Great photos. BTW I hate to be picky but the second last shot is labelled as Mk IX MH434 – it isn’t. I thought it might be better to point it out while you still had a chance of identifying the aircraft. MH434 is indeed a MkIX, but this pic is of a later, Griffon engined mark – possibly an MkXIVe or F22.

They are nice shots though, thanks for sharing.

It’s SM845 which is a Mk.XVIII

Spitfire MkXIV RN201 G-BSKP Owned by HFL, the second from last shot is of course the lovely Susy, P-51D – 25-NA, G-SUSY, serial 47-2773 operated by the Real Aeroplane Company at Breighton.

A taxiable/airworthy Spitfire F22 at a Duxford show? Which one is that?

And there was me thinking that you were the font of all aviation knowledge. 😉

BTW I see you come from Walton on the Naze – I used to live down that way and went to school just down the road at Tendring High School (as was). Small world…

In terms of that Spit, I’ll have a look ta.

In terms of that second to last shot, I’ll have a look – I’ve probably made a mistake w/ the filenames, I usually do :p

Jamie.

As I said, sorry to be picky but I know how annoyed I’d be if I found out I had something labelled wrong ages later, at least now you’ll probably be able to find out what Spit it is.

Well many thanks for the tips – as you can see, I’m a novice when it comes to Airshow photography so all comments/tips are greatly appreciated -I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a beginner at this kinda thing 🙂

Jamie

Pictures look fine..

Apart from the earlier comment on sharpness, My only other comment would be composition…

Your shot of RN201, the first shot??

You have cropped the front and tail off and that fuel tanker in the background??

Sometimes you can’t do much about the background, sometimes you just need to be patient.
Is the aircraft stationary? Is the engine running? One of the best features of a spitfire, in fact most prop driven aircraft is the front end complete with prop.
May I suggest if you have to take a close shot, try getting the front end in with the prop, it makes a more interesting picture.

The first two pictures are cropped differently. Which one do you prefer?
The other two are just examples with good and ‘bad’ backgrounds.

Apart from that, well done..

What is your camera?

You might be able to improve the results, particularly sharpness, by using the unsharp mask in your image processing software – PS Pro, for instance. And maybe try using a tripod for the static shots.

Their okay to my eye otherwise. Maybe some of the pro’s/semi pro’s on here can give you better advice.
