Does anyone know why this aircraft has been restored with a civi registration? Is it a privately owned aircraft or the museums?
Here’s an image from today (Thursday)

Thanks Robbelc,
Soooo…. Without lining the Maggies up side by side, to compare (!) at a glance they all seem to have the same size ‘holes’ for pilots, and the windscreen rollover frame for front cockpit, and windscreen on the rear hole look the same too. Is it another of those ‘paperwork’ differences?
Just curious,
Cheers

Peter’s ‘Maggie’ is actually a Hawk III (Acording to G-INFO and Pete) as is the Duxford (ex-Skyfame) machine. As far as I can tell though, apart from the different name when made, there is no difference no – anyone able to clarify? Shuttleworth’s own machine, IIRC, is a Maggie, not a Hawk. The difference seems to be even less than that of the Seagull V to Walrus – at least there were two physical airframe differences (slats and jury strut if you are wondering…)
Cheers
The diffrence between the Hawk Trainer and the maggie acording to my much prized Putnam Miles Aircraft since 1925 is that the maggie only had enlarged cockpits to accomodate parachutes and blind flying equipment.

Well, by popular demand, here’s a couple more pics.
The map case, suffering from enthusiastic postwar painting. Was to be restored to natural looks…

Blue Robin – I stood and watched you go up on the centenary. I recognised your face from the Duxford forum get-together but wasn’t quite sure who you were so didn’t say hello. Sorry… Bloody cold that afternoon, wasn’t it?
I have to say, Peter’s Maggie is the prettiest aeroplane I’ve ever had the privelege of getting up close to. He flew it into Skysport one summer evening a few years ago, and I stood and watched it being hand-swung into action, before he departed and gave us a wonderful flypast, beautifully lit in the evening sunshine. The aeroplane was also in for a few weeks later that year I recall to have the shiny cowlings made even shinier, and I had the chance to take a peek into the cockpit. Very basic, but brim-ful of character. 😀

You lucky *******.!
I was born in Reading like tha Maggie. I have even worked in the ex Miles factory. When is it my turn?
Actually the former Miles factory looks as it did in 1947 from the outside. sadly the airfield is a sea of houses.

Why has it got a civili registration?
Well, not being commisioned to any particular air force, it;s therefore civvy and can’t fly without one!

Hasn’t everybody?
Peter is one of those marvellous chaps who does not believe in having a spare seat and not filling it with some lucky talking ballast.
I totally agree, a superb bloke who realises that he is custodian of a piece of history and tries to share it with and educate as many people as possible.
You’ve been flying in a Magister????
Guilty as charged 😀

He’s agreed to come and play at our local strip in my new toy, when I get it. Sort of an antique so I’ll post photos here. 😎
