Had a very busy day collecting things for the Museum yesterday – thanks to the forums very own Johnathan F we now have an RP to work with so many thanks to him –
Anyway whilst wandering around DX both Broncos and a Skyvan were on the ARCO flight line – after being tucked behind Area 51 for several years was surprised so hung around when I saw an APU nearby – sure enough pilot clambered in in full kit with a backseater….fired up and maxed it up the runway – wow I thought – Brown gets a scoop – first flight of a Bronco in x years – but no – looked like a series of fast taxies!
The aeroplane had a marked list (oleos not evenly matched?) which was a bit odd, maybe a characteristic of the aeroplane?
So – pix herewith.
Whilst in stores took a snap of the IWM Bolly – no work progressing on it but cockpit shell done and rear fuz pretty much finished. various bits of it propped against a Vamp T.11
Hangar 3 saw the Blenheim C/S on jacks but more advanced than when I saw it at Legends – there appeared to be a tailcone under wraps by its side but in Blenheim palace a tailcone looked to be in primer, next door to the ARCO lizzy – didnt recognise anyone so didnt ask to go in, just had a peek through the doors (no one to ask = no photo – advice from fellow FP ‘regular contributor’ taken on board)
So herewith – pics from the day, mainly Bronco (have crap camera – sorry) and a bit of Blenheim.
Pics follow….dare I say it….ENJOY!!! :diablo:

Talking of Skyvans whats happened to the one that used to fly from Henlow?
By: Skymonster - 4th August 2006 at 22:49
The Skyvan in the original picture is G-BEOL.
Any ideas what happened to the Skyliner that used to drop jumpers at Langer?
Skyvans do guest at Langar sometimes – in fact G-BEOL was there for their big boogie last summer – and it appears that there will be two at Langar in September – http://www.bpslangar.co.uk/html/events.htm
Previously they’ve had British, Danish, Finnish, Luxemburg registered Skyvans (one year three together) for their big events. However, I can’t ever remember a Skyliner being “permanent” at Langar…
There are now very few Skyvans in the UK – one does indeed need to be preserved.

What’s the reg of the Skyvan please.
G-PIGY has been opperating out of Sibson last week.
Agree someone should preserve a Skyvan, guess whilst their still flying they are worth big bucks, think there are still some hauling fish around Alaska?

Interesting pics!
That Skyvan is airworthy, usually based in Belgium for para dropping (even though its on the G- reg).
Andy
It is indeed based in Belgium, although it also flies in Germany, England, The Netherlands etc etc. It is owned by the same owner as the Bronco’s
The owner also bought Skyvan G-PIGY recently.
Can’t wait to see those Bronco’s up in the air. 🙂

Interesting about the Broncos, they have been parked together in the same spot for a while now but when I drove past DX on Monday, one of them was parked right behind Area 51 hangar next to the motorway roughly where the Grumman Goose had been, I was looking at that, when I noticed Sally B taxi past. I presume the taxying job, and I could only see one of them, was receiving the attention of a screwdriver and spanner inside the hangar. Strange beasts, and a strange existance for them.
Sorry Al, don’t know, but I used to cycle out to Langar when I was a kid and it was full of Shackletons recieving repairs, the gate security were nasty pieces of work and threatened to take away our cameras, I’m sure the Soviets were desperate to get hold of our pictures of an a/c, which even in those far off days, was pretty antiquated in Cold War terms.

Over an ale last night a lensman/forumite mentioned that the Falcons used a Skyvan and had been training at DX?
Forgot what STOL performance it had until it took off by the tank bank

I just love the Skyvan. Used to spend a lot of time getting out of the one at Sibson before it crashed with Chris at the controls. Sorely missed pilot and machine.
