Yeah, thats it, thanks guys. Cosmic Wind, owned by Pete Kynsey. The last time & only time I’ve seen it fly is at Legends 99. More bookings for this aircraft please.

As an aside TD248 got very few display bookings in 1994 when Eddie had her in her 41 Squadron scheme so it makes perfect sense to me.

Good to see Rod Dean back in the hot seat. Anyone know who was in the TFC Spitfire?

One of the jets in the D-Day flypast (French Mirage?) had ‘invasion strips’ on it. 🙂

Steady on chaps!

No need to get cross with each other. The simple fact is that the airshow promoters are asking for invasion striped aircraft at the moment and simple market forces dictate the response. These aeroplanes are hideously expensive to operate and if a certain paint scheme enhancement is required in order to obtain bookings the operators will, quite rightly, oblige, to ensure their aircraft is not stuck in the hangar but out in front of the public reminding us all of what this is all about 🙂

Now just hang on a sec!

I have nothing against the stripes on the 18 or the XVI. I wasn’t implying that anyone has jumped on the D-Day bandwagon, either!

And I’m all too aware of the operating costs these aircraft need – I once spoke to Sarah Hanna of the OFMC about filming costs (just out of curiosity, before anyone gets their wiring crossed), and the figures she quoted me I could well believe.

At first I wasn’t very keen on the stripes on the XVI when they first appeared, but they have grown on me somewhat. I wouldn’t have saved them onto my hard-drive for my screensaver if I didn’t like what I saw!

Please let’s not arse up another good thread! 😡

Fantastic pictures as always guys… I agree there is always something new to be seen… For me it was the wingtips on the PA.28 in the photo of the Grumman landing…

There’s always something you haven’t seen – I’m amazed at the looping gliders. And great pics all round.

It is indeed a Cosmic Wind, a little stinker of a hot ship according to a report I read years ago.

Twilight Tear is supposed to be at Cosford next Sunday. hope she makes it.

I knew that little racing aircraft was small but it looks tiny next to the Mustang. The name escapes me right now but I know its named Ballerina. I’d like to see that display at Old Warden. The late Neil Williams flew her in aerobatic competitions.

Looks like the TFC boys were busy today then – their Hurricane had acquired a Merlin by late afternoon. 😉

Mmmm, Beaufighter cowl gills…. 😀

More progress on both the P51C and the Gladiator, and Twilight Tear looks like she’s nearing the end of her winter maintenance.

Albert, I believe the houses were built in the 1930’s, I nearly bought one mant years ago by the local council, despite their now modernised appearance…..I guess someone will have a wartime pic of DX to show this as fact or otherwise.

That last one could so easily be “at an airfield in England, June 1942” 🙂

Were Barratt building houses in 1942 and did we have electric pylons then?? 😎

Good stuff Merlin. Any more?

(Not very surprised to see SM845 in D-Day stripes!)
