DXB Closed!

Dubai airport shut after accident

Dubai international airport could be closed for up to eight hours after 14 people were slightly injured in an aircraft accident, officials say.

The details of the accident were not clear, but it involved a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aeroplane carrying 236 passengers and crew.

Flight BG006 from Dubai to Dhaka “had a minor accident during take-off,” the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority said.

It said all the passengers and crew had been evacuated from the plane.

An official said there was no indication that terrorism had played any part in the incident.

The aviation authority said the airport would be closed for at least eight hours to run through safety procedures to make sure the runway was safe for other planes.

Incoming flights are being diverted elsewhere.

Not good at all, especially for people flying from UK airports as all Emirates lunchtime services have been cancelled…

LHR:
11:35 EK001 DUBAI CANCELLED
13:30 EK029 DUBAI CANCELLED

BHX:
11:40 EK039 DUBAI CANCELLED

MAN:

11:30 EK018 DUBAI CANCELLED

All the evening services seem to be operating at the moment, I wonder if bigger aircraft will be layed on to account for the extra passangers? at any rate this must be causing havoc with flights at Dubai.

I doubt EK would have sufficent ”larger” aircraft to tidy up the backlog which will be left so no doubt there will be some stranted passengers in DXB until tommorow. I can think of worst places to be stranted.

I do belive Binman are looking at the A330 and the Boeing 777 to replace there DC-10S which for me as a classic aircraft lover is a damn shame.

I don’t think they are, I heard they are struggling to finance such orders, they have recently advertised for 2 dry lease A310’s and 2 A300-600’s for 48 months on their own website!

It would appear they may phase out the DC10’s for more airbus which may ensure they get the odd flight that takes off on time!!

Biman has had massive maintenance problems. India has in the recent past thought of banning Biman from Indian skies due to unpaid maintenance bills, as there aircraft always seemed to have some problem or the other, for which Air India mechanics were called in every time.

Biman desperately needs a fleet renewal.
