EADS' Eurocopter confirms talks with Boeing, others for US helicopter alliance

PARIS – Eurocopter, a wholly-owned unit of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co (EADS), said talks are underway with Boeing Co and other groups concerning an alliance for entering the US helicopter market, confirming a report in yesterday’s Sunday Times.
“It’s true that Eurocopter is in discussions with Boeing and other partners, but in terms of a date, we have no comment,” a spokesman said.
The Sunday Times said a memorandum of understanding between the companies could be signed within the next few months.
According to the report, Boeing would market and possibly manufacture the NH-90 transport helicopter made by Eurocopter, while EADS would in return help Boeing to sell its CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter to European armies.
The Eurocopter spokesman noted that airline industry weekly Flight
International had already mentioned the possible alliance earlier this month.
