Thanks guys – I had 19litre capacity in mind for some reason. Wonder where I dreamt that figure up from…?

No, substantially bigger. Can’t remember exactly without looking it up but somewhere around Griffon size, I think.
Correct The DB601 in the Me109 E and F was almost 34 Litres the 605 in the G & K was nearly 36 Litres. The Merlin was 27 litres and the Griffon and Sabre 36 litres. The Herc was 38 etc. The DB 603 was larger again at 44.5 litres and was used in the TA152C, TA154. Do217, He219, and I think the Me410.

Interesting – thanks. The DB is somewhat smaller capacity is it not?

In a word Yes. Major differences in the fuel system and their approach to producing power. A number of major mechanical design differences some of which were flawed, and caused many problems including the one I believe has afflicted D-FMBB.

Why? More difficult to find parts for, I could believe, but are they really so different?

Buchon at La Ferté
The EADS people I spoke at La Ferté told me that the a/c is no flyer, nor will it ever be one. The airframe and the DB601 are not fit enough! They mentioned the c/n 54 for the machine. It is pulled by an original ” Kettenkraftrad”. Apologies for the @#%@&* piece of plastic on the pic…. Greetz

i just got the latest addition of Flypast, there is a Me109 / Buchon c4k-162, this was the silver example at La Ferte?
Apparently this is owned by or previously owned by Private owner, Association Aeronatique Provencal Victor Tatin and is under restoration to flying condition?
this is from http://www.preservedaxisaircraft.com/
but at http://www.avions-de-legende.com/tablprof/Tabrind%E9t.htm it says it is still owned by Ass. Aéron. Prov. Victor Tatin
does anyone have any news on this aircraft, could it be a surprise for legends? it looks pretty complete in flypast this month?

Here is the tread I was talking about with some info about one of the DB ME109’s from EADS:

Seems like the DB engine is difficult to look after.

unless the Damieler Benz engine is not to healthy which can be the case with some warbirds. was the EADS 109 a flyer at RIAT 03?

I’ve seen pictures on a other tread here that show a EADS ME109 which was flying earlier this year. But no EADS plane showed up at Berlin or La ferte. They where in the flying program of those events but they didn’t show up. At la ferte, a static replacement from EADS was on display. So it is strange indeed that the airworthy EADS ME109 failed to show up twice.
I’ll look for that other tread.
