I don’t think they were RC models – I think they were on strings.

(Remember a sequence in 633 Squadron showing a Mosquito (I think) exploding – you could see the wire attached to the thing as it was a control-line model!)

The Spitfires painted as Messerschmitts surely had to be radio controlled models.

I agree. if you look at this image. It seems to have the PRXI deep lower engine cowling…

You have to remember that this was a long time ago and they did not have computers and as good a cgi’s. Sometimes though i feel the modern cgis etc make a film look worse than better. But i do agree that, from those shots, that it was pretty bad.

I remember seeing this as a kid though it was called Battle Squadron it was in a double bill with one called Seven for Hell a Dirty Dozen rip off,I remember being so angry and confused about the mixed up aircraft.I remember it so well because I walked out of the cinema and into a riot!

Sorry to drag up this old thread, but if anyone is interested in this movie you can find it through eBay. I just ordered the combo with Spitfire starring Leslie Howard! Available in both PAL and VHS so it can be enjoyed on both sides of the atlantic…! :rolleyes:

You notice these things a lot when you really get to know aviation movies – a lot of stock footage will turn up, even in the classics (see Reach for the Sky and Angels One-Five for an example).

For its faults, though, A Yank in the RAF does have some nice stock Spitty footage! :rolleyes:

I remember seeing this once a LONG time ago also…thought to myself “What MORON would actually be dumb enough to screw up the planes and markings THIS BADLY in a movie?” Funny thing is…looking now, with that deep chin on the Hispanos, it allows the paint to run under the nose and in the screen shot above, SOMEWHAT look like a Spit! Still…does this one merit a ‘worst of all time’ aviation movie kudo?

Probably does Corsair but what about the “1000 Plane Raid”?

It was on on of the satellite channels a few weeks ago and I was reminded again how awful it was! 😮

However, there was some prety good low flying by a B17 in it. At one point I’m sure the tailwheel touched the ground on one of the passes!

Maybe we should have a poll on the worst aviation movies to find out which one we think is a stinker!

After checking around on net, I find that Eagles over London was made in 1969 or 1970, depending on the web side one accesses! So, here is the question; which Hispano’s are they, and who flew them? Are there any credits on the end of the film to suggest anything? Which film company made this film? Maybe they can come up with some info if they are contacted! Also, the T-6s are interesting. Can they have been Spanish AF examples used for this movie? The Spanish were heavily involved with Battle of Britain, so quite possibly they were doing this as well. I see the T-6 have the football antenna, and the G model canopy, and the Spanish had G models with these antennas. As for the Spitfire with German marks, do you ever see this plane on the ground with people around it? Since it has been 20 years since I saw it, I don’t remember much at all!

Apart from the exhaust, as mentioned, look at the area around the wing roots and that panel line for the lower cowling.

Those Spitfire exhausts look pretty long, longer than usual, or is that just an optical illusion due to the angle from below?
