Early Shackleton Exhaust Unit?

Hi,

The second item for perusal…

I purchased this at the North Weald Aerojumble circa 1991-92. I remember being told it was off an ‘early Shackleton’, but I have never been able to confirm it as I’ve never found a nice close up picture of one in situ on a Shackleton. Is this correct?

I suspect the answer will be ‘no’, but I was wondering if it was possible to link the markings to a specific airframe? I have idly wondered if it was anything to do with the Strathallen one that got scrapped?

Cheers,
Mark

Just a quick public note to confirm that I have received the exhaust unit back and Richard was kind enough to include a couple of extra items.:)

Hi Rich,

Thank you for your reply. I thought it was probably something like that and I’m sorry you’ve been having a bad time of it lately. I shall look forward to receiving them both.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

The fault is entirely mine, I’ve had a very rough year personally and professionally which has impacted a lot of things – the latest in a long stream of upsets being moving house just before xmas – the second move in 6 months. As many will have noticed, I’ve had to step away from the Shackleton project as I don’t have the time to be able to devote to it, and moved off a lot of the forums as I’m just not in front of the computer as much. I didn’t get your e-mail – it may be with someone at SPT if it went to one of the addresses listed. Mine is biggles2000_99 (at) yahoo.com.

The exhaust is reboxed and ready to go along with a UHF controller from either WL790/WR963. It will be with you shortly and I’m trying to get it away today.

It shouldn’t have taken this long and I’m sorry for any worries or distress I may have caused.

Regards,

Rich

Hi,

I’d be very grateful if Richard Woods (richw_82) or someone else at the Shackleton Preservation Trust could contact me about this. I lent the exhaust unit to him in 2014 to measure up and he said he was going to return it to me. However, I haven’t heard anything from him since July and I haven’t had any responses to PM’s or email. I expect it’s just some technical glitch, but I am starting to get a little worried so would be grateful for an update.

Thanks,
Mark

Also used on Firefly Mk 7 (Griffon 59).

Thanks, I didn’t know that, quite surprised.

Thanks for that. A spot of googling and I’ve found the following pictures:

I’m minded to tidy it up a bit. Could any restorers recommended a good modern equivalent of 1950’s black exhaust paint?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

Yes, it is for an early mark Shackleton Griffon 57, and no, none of the stamps will refer to the engine or airframe unfortunately.
