My 70-300mm zoom lens can’t compete with those who have the Hubble space telescope fastened to the front of their camera, so to start my photo report of the October Shuttleworth show, I’ve got some shots just as the hangar doors were opening.
There was still mist hanging over the airfield as the doors rolled back, but it was warm even then, and promised to be a great day. I hadn’t been to OW for a few years and seen a show, as other visits have been blown out or were the modelling free flight events.
The Shuttleworth Pixies soon got to work, with the aircraft performing delicate dances around the small hangar door openings until they reached the open spaces outside.

Nice pics, Stephen. Looks like it was worth the long journey.
Thanks for posting.

Slight correction…..the Hawker Cygnet took to the air for an air test later on in the gathering gloom, at 18.45pm. And it was a vintage day, after the years mediocre flying weather.

The Blackburn was the last aeroplane to land.
Pleased I didn’t miss anything. What a great day out. Many thanks to the pilots and crew who make it all happen.

This is the final few. I took over 1000 photos, so it’s taken some effort to thin out a few to post.

Yes, with a 500 mile round trip, I wanted to get the most out of the day! Unfortunately we had to leave for home after the Blackburn, so I don’t know if anything else flew after that.
This was the first time I’d seen Pete’s Storch fly since it was completed.

and also the first time seeing the pretty poly.

My favourite display of the day.

As I said before, my Nikor lens can’t compete with the big guns, but the excellent lighting conditions resulted in a much larger number of good photos compared to this lens in our more normal dull skies.

The Anson did a short display during the morning and I was surprised how agile it was.

Meanwhile, the ‘Flat Pack’ aeroplanes were assembled.
and all the time, more arrivals parked up.

I had a quick look at the ongoing restorations too.

This markings shot struck me as quite a nice ‘arty’ composition.

There’s much hard work done in the early morning while the general public are still having breakfast!
