Coltishall 1959, featuring 23 Sqn Javelins and 74 Sqn Hunters with Hughie Green interviewing The C.O.’Birdie’ Bird-Wilson, http://www.eafa.org.uk/catalogue/209623
Fantastic film on many levels, ie arfield buildings, jet fighter readiness and scramble procedures, and at the end more heroes in one mess than you can shake a stick at!

This is an incredible resource, be great if other counties and regions take it up.

If you’ve not had a look at the Honington film yet, you should! Warning: you’ll be hooked so don’t plan on doing anything for the 25 minutes or so the film runs for!

There are Stirling/Horsa shots in the Rackheath film too. I haven’t looked at Honington yet. I wonder if some of the clips got mixed up in the editing?

Adrian, the Stirling shots are in the USAAF Honington film. I got to it by putting “Aircraft” in the search engine, then a sub title “aircraft” comes up and it is then one of about 30 titles that appear. Hope that helps.

Love the 1980 Stansted film. Amazingly that side of the airport is little changed apart from a few new hangars. Just a sham that the Sterling Caravelles, and 727’s, and the likes of Braathens, Aviarco, AirUk etc are no more. Can’t say I miss the 80’s hair and clothes too much though!;)

Loved the Stansted film too! Haven’t seen Michael Rodd of “Screentest” fame since I was a kid…funny, but he reminded me a bit of Alan Partridge!

The Honington footage is great too! All 29 minutes of it!

Regards;
Steve

What a great site.
I found this clip from 1928 while looking for something unrelated to aviation.

I’d never seen “live” shots of Stirlings towing gliders to Arnhem before and by contrast there is an Auster doing joyflights at Clacton. Wonderful stuff.

What did you search for to find the Stirlings? “My” airfield isn’t represented by name, but anything that might be relevant to Riff Raff and Varsity would be right up my street…

Nice film of Perkins Gliding Club shot at Polebrook circa 1960. Cat No 5997 about 6mins 23 secs in called “Plane Sailing” showing the T-21 and Tutor being winch launched.
Also short clip showing Claude Grahame White getting married at Chelmsford in 1912,just put his name in search.
Thank you UEA for providing this many hours of happy viewing and its National Lottery funded.
