The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby held a flying event on Saturday to commemorate the Battle of Britain.
Spitfire XVIe TD248, flown by Cliff Spink, arrived from Duxford during lunchtime. The airfield was later strafed by John Romain in a HA-112 Buchon (Spanish built Me-109 with Merlin engine). The Spitfire was scrambled and a superbly flown dogfight routine took place within the airfield boundary; both aircraft recovered to East Kirkby and were on static display for around an hour before departing south for another air display, a gesture much appreciated by the large crowd.
Two Lancaster runs took place in excellent weather and the airfield took on a WWII feel with a number of re-enactors on site. Events at East Kirkby are very informal, relaxed affairs – this event easily rates as the highlight of a busy year at East Kirkby.
Massive thanks to the Panton family for their continued support.

…and when the aeroplanes flew home, they played a giant game of snooker on the world’s largest snooker table…
I love grass landing fields, especially those, like East Kirkby, that are well maintained. Not a weed in sight.
