according to the website
“Sat 18th November- 3.00pm & 7.30pm Spitfire at 2.00pm
Followed by a spectacular firework display”
Might be a good excuse for a day out….

‘Whats on TV’ have an electricaly heated bodywarmer in this weeks issue. I thought of East Kirkby as soon as I saw it.
It was certainly freezing last year, plenty of frost on ‘JJ’ when she did the second run. I actually had my coat on all the way home in the car, & when I got in I pulled my coat & shoes off & dived straight under the duvet.

I don’t know if I’ll get the chance to go again, but for me, my trip last year is right up there with a day at ‘Legends’.

but a LOT colder.

If you can go then do so.
I went last year, courtesy of Robbo, and although it meant a 17 hour day I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The night run really takes you back to the airfield as ‘Just Jane’ & her crew taxy out for take off. I can see in my mind now, when ‘JJ’ turned at the end of the first half of the night run and sat for a little while, pitch darkness apart from a light in ‘JJ’s nose and the eight pairs of exhausts glowing blue.
The other exhibits are very interesting too.

I’m not sure if the tower was open last year, all the other buildings were so I can’t see why it won’t be.

thanks for the reply 1group,
Ive only ever been to EK when i was little (several times) although i dont remember it at all. (18 now)
I had a scan on EK’s webpage which is where i found that info i posted although it really didnt tell me much abotu what there is to see there as its a 2hr drive for me, so id like to know first.
With the recent post about haunted airfields with the EK tower being mentioned id love to go in there at night just to try and understand the feeling.
If the lancs running at 7:30 then would the tower still be open then or is there a closing time on that night? or will it be an exception.
Many thanks

This event at EK is superb, I strongly reccomend it. Usual format is a “normal” Lancaster taxi-run, the Spitfire display then the night run. The following firework display is, or at least was last year, awesome. There can be a bit of waiting particularly for the night run, but there’s an awful lot to see in the museum itself, also take the airfield tour aboard a Queen Mary, if the old lady (whose name I forget) is doing the commentary you’ll love it.
The actual night run is very evocative, it’s very easy to let your mind wander back in time, the hairs on the back of your neck will be standing up and you may even have the odd tear in your eyes, unless it’s just the cold weather, that’s the excuse I used anyway!
Seriously go, you’ll not regret it.
