Went to my first taxing of Just Jane at East Kirkby at the weekend. The weather was sunny then cloudy (Plus rain just before the start up) but well worth it to hear all four Merlins fire up. The pilot (Jacko Jackson if I heard correctly) taxied out turned around then ran the engines upand down. When he taxied back to the starting point he ran up the inner then outer engines and the noise was incredible 😮 I can thoroughly recomend it. Apologies for the quality of the photos (New camera)

I almost went on the tour in the Queen Mary trailer but decided to go and look at the Wellington exibit again (When I came out it was raining again) then went around all the exibits in the main hanger. I had intended to go on to Wickenby for a look around but as happened on my previous visit I could not pull myself away. I dont know what it is about East Kirkby but it is still my favourite museum.

Do they still do the airfield tours in the Bedford OX and Queen Mary trailer? Was interested in doing one but didn’t have the time, plus I didn’t see them advertised anywhere.

Glad you had a wonderful day. I never get tired of East Kirkby, being a two and a half hour journey for me I have to limit meself to three visits a year 🙂
The atmosphere is right, the staff are terrific. Next time you go get on the airfield tour, just dont do it in November, unless you want to imagine what it was like to spend a twelve hour day out on the dispersals maintaining the aircraft as the ground crews did.
