Decided to take a trip to EMA or NEMA or whatever it’s called these days. I believe it’s known in some circles as East Dumps. Not bad today, EZY and bmi baby mostly but we don’t get those at BHX. The added advantage is the Aeropark which gives a decent vantage point and has several airframes to look at during the quiet periods.
The light was a bit awkward so the first shot I got was this…

You really need an SLR Kevin.;)

A feature I discovered just a couple of days ago on my Fuji S304 was to push the button half way. This focuses the image and then push it all the way down to take the photo. Haven’t tried it with a fast-moving aircraft yet, but with Dublin only 1 day and about 10 hours away, I’ll be able to put it to the test.
Thanks for the reply 🙂

I’d like to thank everyone for their kind comments, it really is appreciated. I’d like to thank Boeing for making the 737, the airlines for buying them, Fuji for making the camera and the man in the white sherpa at EMA for changing the bulb on one of the runway lights and making it all possible. 😀 I think I watched too much of the BAFTA’s tonight.
I’ll post the remaining shots that are any good tomorrow. Too tired tonight.
T5. I’ve got used to letting the camera focus automatically as the a/c approaches and then when I press the shutter I get anything from a half to 3 or 4 seconds of black. During that time I have to pan and hopefully stay with the a/c. It’s a lot of trial and error but I don’t seem to be doing too badly. Of course, you don’t see how many shots I take of half an aircraft or empty sky.

It takes mine so long to (well.. a few seconds) to focus, set shutter speed etc, that by the time the photograph is actually taken, the aircraft has landed already and has since parked up at the terminal!! 😀
I have the same problems with my camera, although it is 3.2MP, it is quite a cheap one, and the focusing is very bad. What I find helps, is to stand infront of an object on the approach, something more definite like a tree. Then focus the picture with the tree and the plane in the other half of the frame, then once it had focused just fit the plane into the frame and take the picture. I think the camera finds it difficult to focus on something small like a plane in the sky, but with a tree or something liek that it is a lot easier.

Great shots, really like the Bmi with the sun rays and the Easyjet A319. Why can’t they come to Stansted?!

Great shots!! Well done!! The first one is a bit dodgy but that is more to do with the lighting than your ability.
