Popped across to the Aeropark at East Midlands today. Several of the airframes were being worked on and they were asking every visitor to fill in a questionnaire. The paths were largely clear and dry but the grass areas were sodden. They really seem to be trying hard with limited resources. I wish them every success. Here’s a few photo’s.
The Whirlwind and Wessex were being worked on.

It’s the only one I’ve ever seen there but I’m not a frequent visitor.
I’ve wondered several times what the connection was supposed to be but never had the presence of mind to ask anybody.

Do believe it is, as far as i know there is (well, was) only one Spitfire FSM at Donington, weren’t some based there during the war, or built?

Is that the pole-mounted Spitfire FSM from near the Craner Curves at Donington?

The replica shows evidence of its origins – a faded RNeth.AF livery of H-25/MK732.
It is due to be repainted in 504 Squadron markings.

The Meteor and Vampires are still down at the old site but should move by summer (a few weeks probably) We have the wheel pads ready for the Meteor and Vampire. The Vampire pod is going on display in the new building. The Sheriff will also go inside for restoration.
Last time I was there working, we had an old control tower truck, we had to get rid of the truck but keep the tower.

Just been extremely reliably informed by James Barber, a volunteer there, that it is the Spitfire FSM from Donington Race track (very close by for those that don’t know) that the aeropark is to have. Didn’t happen to see the Vampire, Vampire nose or Meteor there did ya?

Where any of the aircraft ground run when they were parked on the other side of the airport?(original site)
Yes they were on the original site.

Kev, definitely some nice pics. I don’t think any one who posts photos on this forum ever needs to say more if wanted as I’ve found that they always are even if the quality leaves something to be desired.

Yeah lets hope we get some more sympathetic people on the council one day.
Also what **** has decided to call the place “Nottingham East Midlands Airport”
I live under the flight path and I can tell you Notts do not get the noise we do.
But I like planes so don’t mind to be honest.

hmmmm
councils change…!!

Many of the Vulcan’s systems still work and the engines are in good condition and could be run again.
The problem is the local council say that nothing at the Aeropark can be run up due to noise pollution laws.
The Bucc and Canberra also could be run if only the council were not so short sited.
Nice photos by the way 🙂

I had a chance to Visit the collection just after they opened at the new location and I explained that I had traveled across the pond to visit the collection. I was then given a guided tour of all the collection and access to many of the cockpits…fine group of volunteers…thumbs up….
Any one seen the Viscount Cockpit yet that they acquired last year?

I went a few weeks ago when a battery was connected up to the lightning and some of the electronics were switched on in the cockpit- amazing how it works after all this time!

Just noticed that but it could be the ground, it was VERY soden with puddles forming undernearh the Vulcan. Just walking off the path into the grass at some points meant you were in danger of losing a shoe.
I’ll get some better close-ups for you next time I go.
