I think that the vulcan and bucc based here should be moved to another location so they could be run again.
Both are in running condition but the engines can not be run at east midlands due to a local council ruleing.
The best place would be Kemble no buc is their anymore so a vulcan and bucc that could taxi at the classic jet airshow would be very nice.
Also southend or welsborne would be nice for the vulcan to go just think of 2 vulcans taxing at the same time and xh558 flying overhead when it makes it back into the air.
This is all just an idea but it would be ncie i mean its mad haveing these two jets sitting their when they could taxi with a bit of work.

Another museum on my ‘to do list’. Quite poignant to see a Varsity there, especially in those colours and so close to the actual airport where G-BDFT took off on her last flight.

Good place! Went to open cockpit day last year- inside Nimrod is great, as is listening to stories of “top secret equipment from it being found in a skip!”

Sweet, shame the place isn’t open more.
While waiting for the Inlaws to arrive at East Midlands Airport, I made a brief visit to the Aeropark and took the following pictures. Being mid week, the place was shut, so all were taken through the boundary fence.

Shame, would be nice to see life in some of the airframes. I imagine that i wouldnt understand the cost involved either.

As for as I know XM575 is still live, and the systems still work. I think 3 of the 4 Olympus engines are in working order too.
Peter. The Varsity is being stripped and repainted at this current stage. She got badly weathered when we closed down back in 1995. She will look brand new again (hopefully) once she is finished. I doubt she will be tested again due to the noise control. I doubt we test the Vulcan, Buccaneer or Canberra now.
I hope this helps.

I also see that 575 is being repainted. Are her systems still runnable?
Some of the electrical systems were still working back in 2004, not sure if they still are.

Thanks James.
I fruns will no longer happen, will they look after her so that one day she may run again? interestingly you could have open days and do engine runs for a small fee…

I do have 2 pics of the Varsity running up from the 1980s (when we were at the old site). I will have to try and find them. It’s very rare that we run her up now due to noise, fuel cost etc. We may no longer run her up anymore.
Don’t worry Peter, the Varsity is staying with us for a long time yet. She is looking a bit dirty at the moment, but a strip and repaint are on the cards this year.

We occasionally still run the Varsity
What?! Any pics? video clips anything My god it must be the only one still runnable Please keep her so for as long as possible…!

We occasionally still run the Varsity up but not very often due to the noise etc. The cockpits are open on open days, and good summers days.
I really enjoyed the old Aeropark when I was a little boy. I do miss that site now. Does anyone have any photos from the old Aeropark as I am after some?

Suppose a NIMBY has complained.
By: Rlangham - 14th May 2006 at 10:59
If it’s anything like the Buccaneer – they can’t! Despite the fact they live right next to an ever increasingly busy airport, they complain about the noise!
By: Rob68 - 14th May 2006 at 10:56
will try to get up soon as not been since you were on the old site many years ago. Do you still run the Varsity up? i seem to recall it was capable of this a few years ago.

Don’t think theres a Harrier at East Midlands unless im much mistaken, but if i ever win the lottery and convert a Gr.3 into Gr.1 status i’ll probably keep it there (close to me). Your right it is a good site, the hangar looks pretty big, apparently theres only going to be a Vampire nose in there.

Love the jumping aeroplanes on the virtual tour. If you move your mouse very slowly up and down as the aircraft is off the ground it gives, with the flames coming out the back and the shadow on the ground, the impression of it flying along.
Sad I know.
Brian
A flying Vulcan what ever next? :diablo:
No Harrier?
Great site though!
