Eastbourne Airshow. Is there an itinerary for 2011 yet and is it worth a visit?

Sorry, the last part of the Topic seems quite harsh, but I am considering a trip to this-years show in Eastbourne that runs from the 11th-14th of August.

I have not been before and I wanted to see what would be taking part on the Friday,Saturday and Sunday but also have any of the Forum users been to a previous one?

I’m wondering what the view is like, as the show is free so I can imagine it would be busy.

Also I wonder if anyone has been there before and what the access is like, i.e, does it get busy on the roads early, are the displays similar on all days or is the weekend best to attend?

Cheers, MP

I went up on Beachy Head last year for the show, and you miss a lot of the display but a lot of the aircraft, come in from Shoreham along the coast and hold whilst waiting to display. Then on there departure they treat us to a nice topside. And last year the Belgian F-16 began and finished his display right in front of us with a nice topside pass.

Not to mention the Red Arrows who treated us to some amazing flypasts. All my pictures were taken just by the Lighthouse at Beachy Head on the cliffs, i parked right by the Beachy Head pub.

That gives you an idea of what you could expect, im definatley going back this year weather permitting.

This may give you a flavour of going to the cliffs nearby on an airshow day. A bit of a one off but wonderful all the same.

Eastbourne Airshow

I first wentto Eastbourne six years ago by casr, and spent more time finding somewehere to park rather than watching the Airshow. When I go nowadays I go by train because it is cheaper and the railway station is very near the seafront

I have two resounding memories of Eastbourne. The first was the Harrier, that made a couple of passes over the crowd, who seemed to treat it as just another fast jet until he disappeared behind the pier and reappeared in semi hover mode, and the crowd became speechless, with admiration (partly due to the noise of the Pegasus)

The second memorable occasion was a B747-400 which mde a low pass from west to east, and seemed to take forever to make a 180 turn to fly back down the display line. You could almost hear the EGPWS screaming “Pull Up Pull Up”

If you can’t get to Eastbourne, then Shoreham is worth a visit as many of the propeller driven types use it as their operating base for Eastbourne and often give a mini display on their return to Shoreham after their slot at Eastbourne

Hi MP

Eastbourne is a good free show. It’s worth going and has a good mix of aircraft displaying. Not been for couple years but i assume not changed much.

Not everything displays everyday so its worth checking which day is best.

It gets very busy if the weather is good but there’s always plenty of space on the beach. Best place is between the pier and the Wish Tower but you can spread out further along.

Parking is a bit difficult unless you get lucky. They do have a park and ride to the east of the town and a bus to the centre although you can easily walk it. The train station is very close as well if don’t want to drive.

One thing I’ve been meaning to do is watch from Beach Head. I’ve seen some great pictures taken from up there but you are away from the centre of the display so is more aircraft arriving and departing.

Peter
