easyJet will very probably start operating to Malta very soon, taking advantage of the recent concessions by Malta International Airport and the goverment in an effort to attract low cost airlines. Ryanair is very interested, even to make Malta their newest base. But FR have already said that the terms of the concessions are not enough for the airline. An announcement is expected imminently.

Probably see GLA-Malta with GSM next summer. I think Pula will be axed from both GLA and EDI.

Yea Malta does seem like the sort of place that Jet2 and FlyGlobespan would operate from.
GSM did hold slots for MLA from GLA this summer, but obviously nothing came of it.
It would have been 2x weekly on the 733.

Jet2Malta sounds nice doesnt it???
Id rather see someone like LS jump in there and get a footing in the market before FR and U2 go in and destroy it.

Good one shamrock. BA fly to MLA from LGW. I badly need a new keyboard!

LHG????? Heathwick?? Gatrow??? LOL do you meen LGW Im not to sure.
I know KM use T4 in LHR and Imwondering how much O&D traffic they carry on the route.I would imagine that BA feed some transcontinental passengers onto KM flights.
I dont think FR and U2 give a damn that there is already 3 airlines on the route all they want to do is take the passengers and ring every penny they can out of the route.

The London-Malta route is over saturated with no less than 3 scheduled airlines operating on the route from 3 London airports. Apart from chartered flights in the peak season. I really don’t see much point in adding two more airlines and yet another airport. AirMalta has a strong position out of LHR. So that is not likely to change. BA operates from LHG but without much enthusiasm. BritishJet cancels many flights in winter. And two rival LCC’s to start operating from the same airport LTN. Something will have to give. This will be interesting.

The reason why there has not been a low cost invasion is because there is only one airport in Malta and LCC’s especially Ryanair are too cheap to fly to mainline airports.
However, today FR and U2 have applied for routes as follows:
U2: LTN, MLH
FR: LTN, DUB, PIS.

I’m suprised that Malta has not had a low cost invasion before now due to the links the island has with the UK and a considerable ex-pat population. Air Malta has had the monoply and charge quite high prices on the UK routes, although British Jet are flying to the island they have not really challanged AMC.

Maybe JET2 to Malta could be possible.
