Just heard on the news that EZY have cancelled all flights in and out of Bristol today due to concerns about the runway. I have checked various websites and every other airline is operating normally. Has anyone any ideas what the problem is?

Maybe because Eastern as familiar with Filton as they operate BAe flights from there I think.
BTW hoping the runway does get sorted pretty soon & the groves are cut to ease drainage. Can’t be nice there doing that work at the moment, as the weather in S Bristol is pretty rubbish at the moment.

Last arrival looks to have been G-WOWC on WOW304.
Anyone notice that Eastern’s T34501 from Aberdeen tomorrow morning is showing as “diverted to Filton”.

Apart from Thomson who have released a press statement on their website, This information is correct from looking at the website.
The other airlines may or may not follow.
However its clear to see from 2 incidents and one near incident that something needs to be done. Especially when pilots have to hold for runway checks, or have expressed concerns to their respective company’s about safety. This should not be compromised.
I’m no expert, but to me, a larger Jet a/c skidding down the runway could be alot worse than a slower, smaller ATR!
I think its sensible that so many companies have decided to divert their flights from Bristol until the problems with Runway has been solved.
Safety must come first no matter what, Besides a accident however minor would bring huge bad press to a Airline, Something not worth risking.

Air South West
KLM

It’s seem that airlines with smaller a/c are still operating as normal like Air Southwest/Aer Arann/Aurigny/Eastern/OLT. Prob because they require less landing distance.

What I dont understand is easyJet cancelling all flights but other airlines are continuing as normal. A runway is a runway either they all use it or they all cancel all flights to the airport. I mean there are still a lot of airlines flying into BRS which clearly know about the runway condition but think it safe to proceed.

They’ve just announced to their customers that they are operating as what they see dangerous.
Not quite. They have only suspended operations whilst the runway is wet, resulting in the newly laid surface becoming slippery and when the prevailing crosswind is deemed to be above safe operating limits given runway conditions. I understand that the weather forecast for Bristol over the weekend is not good (Wind/rain). If they continue to suspend flights over the weekend, it may take a couple of days after that before they return to normal operations at Bristol. It just depends on the weather conditions and what form their forward planning takes.
In essence, what they have actually announced to their customers is that a potentially dangerous situation has been identified (Remember, three other operators have had landing problems recently at Bristol) and it is easyjets decision to put safety before profit. A stance for which they should be commended.

Its wet today, and with braking action being suggested to be close to zero on the centre section of runway, I think its a sensible thing for easyJet to do and BA and XL’s actions back that up. Its only an issue when its wet, particularly coupled with crosswinds, so there’s no reason easyJet can’t operate through BRS during the remainder of the work period as long as the conditions are better than today. Far from easyJet dumping themselves in it, I’d have though it would be other airlines continuing to operate and putting themselves at risk that could be embarrasing. I hope that the responsible authority (i.e. the CAA) will take a look at this and, if necessary, give BRS a good kick up the ass and back the airlines, or tell both parties its OK.

Surprisingly the TOM flight from TFS due in at midnight is already showing as a BHX divert.
