easyJet launches NEW route from London Gatwick to Budapest
Today, easyJet launches a new route from London Gatwick to Budapest and adding Hungary to the choice of countries on offer from the London airport. Gatwick will become easyJet’s largest base in Europe this winter offering a choice of 29 routes, and accounting for 15% of the airline’s operation.
The daily flight to Budapest will allow thousands of travellers to explore the Hungarian capital courtesy of easyJet’s famously low fares starting from £40.98 return (including all taxes). There has been a great deal of demand for this new service, which reflects the huge interest in Eastern Europe at present for both business and leisure passengers. easyJet began services from Gatwick to Prague on 23 April 2004 and is adding today Budapest as its 2nd Eastern European destination from the London airport. easyJet is happy to be giving the people in the Gatwick area the opportunity to visit the new member states that joined the EU earlier this year.
This year, easyJet will start flying from a variety of its UK airports to Tallinn, Riga, Prague, Budapest, Ljubljana, Warsaw, Krakow and Bratislava making it the number one low-cost airline for Eastern Europe.
easyJet CEO Ray Webster said:
“This is a very exciting time for easyJet, as there are many great opportunities for growth in Europe at present. easyJet is clearly the low-cost leader for Eastern Europe and today’s launch is a further key step in the planned growth of easyJet.”
easyJet is committed to growth at Gatwick and is delighted to bring the beautiful city of Budapest within reach of thousands of people living in the area.”

It was announced a while ago, but I think it has only just started flying?

This is new?
I was under the impression that this route had been around for a while now. It operates once a day, seven days a week.
Certainly some good competition for British Airways who fly several times a week (although not daily) to Budapest from Gatwick using a 737-400.
